Dr. John L. Burns Jr. MD is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and President of the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute, one of the largest plastic surgery group practices in the United States. Dr. Burns dedicates his practice to aesthetic or cosmetic plastic surgery. Dr. Burns was raised in Dallas and graduated from Highland Park High School. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Burns graduated summa cum laude from the Research Honors Program at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). As one of the top students, he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honorary society. He stayed at the University of Texas Medical Branch where he completed a residency in Plastic Surgery. In addition, he completed training in micro-vascular surgery at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas and cosmetic surgery in Miami, Florida. Following his plastic surgery training, Dr. Burns became the first plastic surgeon in …the United States to complete a fellowship in laser surgery at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. His leadership in the field is evidenced by the numerous peer reviewed articles and book chapters he has published on the subject of plastic and laser surgery. Dr. Burns is a frequent speaker at national meetings and is active in clinical research studies focusing on new laser technology. Dr. Burns has been recognized by D magazine as one of the best plastic surgeons in Dallas. Dr. Burns goal is to create natural beauty without making a person appear unnatural or “fake.” He believes that a person’s natural beauty should be enhanced, not altered. Dr. Burns believes in achieving the finest possible result with the least risk. He insists on using only physician anesthesiologists and operates in an onsite and fully accredited surgery center, the Dallas Day Surgery Center, or at Medical City Hospital in Dallas. Dr. Burns' Botox and Filler practice has received Allergan's Double Black Diamond Award and ranks in the Top20 practices in the United States. Dr. Burns is happily married with three children, and is a member of Park Cities Presbyterian Church, where he teaches in the middle school youth program. He is an elite masters marathon runner and competes annually in The New York City Marathon and The Boston Marathon. Dr. Burns has a personal best time for the marathon of 2:45.
