My husbands back went out which was always treated with a few days on Flexaril by our doctor. In her absence he saw Dr Butler. He would not prescribe flexaril and instead told him to take a 20 minute walk?

Last week I interviewed the doctor and told him I was here to select a primary care doctor. He told me he had 40 years experience and had read my chart and discussed me with the other doc who had treated me over the past five months. My concern was to find a doctor with a primary goal to maximize the quality of my daily life. This would include how to best manage chronic pain including advanced arthritis joint pain. He began by asking 20 questions or statements about depression. It became obvious that he walked in the room with an agenda to identify depression as a cause for pain. The chart history shows in the last five months as a patient that I was clinically diagnosed and surgically treated for two hernias that had existed for years and caused significant pain. After the hernias were repaired, I had returned and was clinically diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands. This was confirmed by a neurologist and is scheduled for surgical repair in a couple of… weeks. The pain, numbness and tingling in the hands, sleep disturbance for months are caused by CTS. Yet Dr. Butler persisted with his evaluation of depression for pain. When I asked how he would treat advanced arthritis which had been evaluated by the arthritis clinic in Olympia with an auto immune disease attacking my joints. Dr. Butler said his treatment would be take a walk and take an aspirin. Dr. Butler should be avoided like the plague. If you have chronic pain issues be aware this doctor is not patient centered to help improve the quality of your life. In my case, when he conducted an interview evaluation like an attorney taking a deposition seeking a depression problem that does not exist, his conduct was inappropriate and unjustified. If you have real health issues and need a doctor, keep on looking. Take a pass on this one. Time for him to hang up his shingle.

Totally without compassion or caring. Don't go to this doctor for any reason if at all possible.

Dr. Butler put in my file, for the new doctor who took over for my old doctor, that I "had violated" my "pain management contract". He is a liar, and I have evidence PROVING IT! He signed my pain management contract, agreeing to continue with my pain management, then less than 7 days later sent a letter to me BLACKBALLING me AND my entire family! I had to fight with my insurance company at my side fighting for me, just so I could see my doctor again- with the stipulation that I would NOT receive pain management from them. All because Dr. Butler DISAGREES with the Washington Medical Marijuana Law, which I am a legal patient. I have letters from the local hospital from Doctors STATING that due to my deteriorating physical condition, I need to be on chronic pain management. Even though the hospital stated this, I was still refused. So, instead I poison my liver with high doses of tylenol and aspirin to try to manage my pain somewhat, all because Dr. Butler has slandered, defamed my… character, and out right lied about me to other medical facilities in our area, as well as previously tying my own doctor's hands if she wanted to keep her job. What a land of the free!

he was on time and listened to what I had to say. His diagnosis was accurate. He did not over treat as so many other doctors have done.

My regular doctor was on maternity leave, and Dr. J. Butler was handling her cases while she was on leave. I had previously been receiving pain management therapy from my primary doctor, which I had proved over the years that I did not abuse them. I have a good relationship with my primary doctor. However, when I went in for my appointment I was told by Dr. Butler that they had changed the policy and now had to have a pain management contract, with random U.A. tests. I am also a M.M. patient, which I was upfront about, showed by permit/prescription from the other doctor involved in this particular treatment, and told Dr. Butler that I would fail the U.A. test for the above reasons. I took the U.A., and we signed the pain management contract, with the stipulation stated on the contract that I would fail the first test and why, and that as long as I refrained from the M.M. I would continue to receive my pain management therapy. We added this to the pain management contract, with… him initialing it also. Less than 10 days after that appointment, I received a letter in the mail stating that at the end of that month I would no longer be allowed as a patient, and he had also black-balled my entire family from the office as well. It took complaints through my insurance companies, and agreeing to no pain management therapy to be accepted as a patient at Shelton Family Medicine, through which Dr. Butler is one of the founding doctors. I had been a patient at Shelton Family Medicine for over 15 years. He lied to me, to my face (and my tape recorder, which helped my case), then back stabbed me and tried to black ball me. I'm NOT impressed, disgusted actually. I will NEVER see Dr. Butler again, no matter HOW much money I would be offered to see him again. That is how strongly I feel about the situation and this doctor in particular.
