Dr. John Charles Byrne, MD

Unprofessional, Rude. He messed up 3 of my surgeries, kicked his feet up in a chair while talking to my mother and I. Also stated sorry for messing up your life , after messing up all the surgeries. Very uncomfortable when he told me (18yr old female) to bend over a table while himself & 2 other male students were in the room while he stuck his finger in my a**. He needs to be sued, & have his license revoked. He is messing up peoples lives, and making them end up incontinent.

Unrecomender peroid. My son went to vist Dr. john Charles to consult about his colon. Unfortunately left unhappy and depressed . He did not take the time with him it seem he was rushed. Please if you read my review consider to take your time and at least motivate your patient.

HE WAS ARROGANT, RUDE WOULDN'T ALLOW ME TO ASK QUESTIONS, USED A ROBOT WHO SCREWED UP MY SURGERY AND HE HAD TO GO INTO MY LOWER ABDOMEN TO FIX IT. ENDED UP CUTTING ME ALL THE WAY ACROSS MY LOWER ABDOMEN CUTTING THROUGH MUSCLE TISSUE AND NERVES. I AM NOW INCONTINENT AND HE DIDN'T EVEN SHOW UP FOR THE FOLLOW UP VISIT. I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE HIM EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT HAPPENED A NURSE HAD TO. AFTER THE SURGERY HE CAME IN TURNED A CHAIR BACKWARDS AND LOOKED AT ME FOR A MINUTE SHOOK HIS HEAD AND SAID SEE YOU AT THE FOLLOW UP. WHICH HE NEVER CAME TO.

Dr. John Charles Byrn saw me at my visit with a female medical student and a female medical assistant. Without asking if I was comfortable with them being present he asked me to hop on the table in a crouch with my bare bottom pointing up. I told Dr. Byrn I was uncomfortable. He told me with much condescension that “UMHS is a teaching institution and medical students have a right to be present.” I asked him to reconsider but he refused and said “In this case you may have to go somewhere else” for care. Now humiliated and angry I told him I was done and called him rude, unprofessional and arrogant. Only then did he say he would try to find a male chaperone but the interaction was irreparably damaged and I just wanted to leave. We argued more and at some point he decided I was being “abusive” and called security, though at no point did I ever threaten him. If you think all of this is nothing just reverse the genders and insert a 19 year old female patient and male chaperones!

Dr. Byrn jumped to conclusions and completely blew me off: I was actually very hesitant to consider surgery, but my Dr. encouraged me to go in for a consult and discuss the pros/cons. However, Dr. Byrn assumed I came in thinking surgery would solve all my problems, resisted any discussion as to how surgery MIGHT help as a PART of my overall treatment plan, and immediately dismissed me to consider surgery at future appointments with other Dr.'s... So what was the point of coming in and paying for a consult with him?!?

Heartfelt thanks to Dr Byrn. Today I had my second colonoscopy done by him. His judgement is sound, he is efficient, courteous and approachable! I highly recommend Dr Byrn. I extend my thanks to Dr Benjamin Carr & the rest of all the staff I interacted with. Thank you

After a routine colonoscopy I was diagnosed with cancer of the cecum. Luckily the initial tests were favorable and it didn’t appear to have spread. I still felt like I was a time bomb and wanted it out as soon as possible. Dr. Byrn was able to fit me into his surgery schedule just 13 days later. The cancer did not have time to spread and I feel that he saved my life. 15 days after the surgery my body is returning to a more normal state and I am very grateful for the results and the quick turn around time from colonoscopy to right colectomy. Perhaps Dr. Byrn might not have the very best people skills in terms of offering comfort and sympathy to his patients but he is a surgeon not a counselor and an excellent surgeon. If you need surgery go to a surgeon it is nice if the two overlap but the most important thing is that he is an excellent surgeon- Dr Byrn.

Dr byrn was my second opinion and was very confident in treating my cancer with no chemo or radiation. I’m very thankful for him and his staff. Only thing is it is hard to let him know my concerns and talk much because he is in and out so fast. He did check on me everyday during my hospital stay which was very great if him. I owe my life to him and his staff.

The worse doctor ever. Arrogant, late. 3 minute with patient. Advice could cause malpractice. Stay away. He is a doctor with no compassion.
