Dr. John J Choi, MD

I just had an appendectomy performed by Dr. Choi. To me he is a very knowledgeable, personable, experienced, and competent surgeon He clearly explained the procedure and and recovery. All my questions were answered in a way I could understand . My appendicitis was complicated by severe inflammation and presence of a stone. I was so glad I had a surgeon like Dr. Choi to take care of me.

This man get no stars!!!! Too bad I had to atleast put on star to submit .he’s so arrogant and judgmental that I stormed out that office in full tears having mental breakdown. He downplayed my intelligence by asking me “who did my colonoscopy?” I couldn’t remember because I seen multiple doctors this past year alone, so I gave him two names of the doctors I saw. His snugged face goes “oh they are nurse practitioners they don’t do procedures”. I said “I’m sorry, I don’t remember” he goes “well do Atleast you know if it’s a male or female?” I said male he goes “you’re going to have to go on google or something because how you don’t know?” I said “sir, I dealt with a lot this year school, appointments and personal things” he goes “you’re 31 years old and you’re acting like you’re 70 or 80 something years old” From that point I shut down, luckily his assistant looked up my chart (which i don’t know why It wasn’t looked at in the first place) and she said “oh she seen this particular… doctor” he goes “oh that makes sense” he looked at my medication list and goes “oh you’re on metformin? You’re a diabetic?” I said no “I’m prediabetic” and his assistant stepped in and said “ she’s taking it for two reasons, because she has PCOS and for pre-diabetes” this man looked at me up and down and goes “Hmmmmm” and started looking at my chart at that point, I felt he down played my condition. He asked me “when do I want the surgery?” I stated well I was hoping I can get it done early this month but I’m sure its not possible, and I said excuse me I meant August” he goes lady are you crazy? You saying the beginning of the month, it’s July 26 it’s not the beginning of the month” I said “ I know that! I just said I meant August!” He goes “yeah because it’s still July..” he goes in the beginning of August is not possible because I need medical clearance like blood work, and I can get you in sometime in the middle of august but surgery doesn’t revolve around your time” ( which I never said it did, nor did I get the impression that it was, I was trying to weigh my options) I explained to him “that right now I’m not working and I start my new job at the end of august” he explained in his arrogant way that “I wont be able to do that because it takes 6-8 weeks to heal so I for two week I won’t be able to do anything” which is understandable that’s why i was seeing if I can get something earlier. He proceeds to tell me I should wait to start work and get PTO cause my job requires sitting.. (which is the reason why I was weighting my options because I’m not working) he also down played my career path cause he asked me if I’m in school and what I plan on doing... I told him I just graduated with my bachelors in May and I Told him what I was going to do and he’s like “THAT THE CAREER PATH YOU'RE DOING TO DO? THAT’S WHAT YOU REALLY WANT TO DO? Talking to me like I’m a child and acting like I’m messing up my life with my decision. There’s no much that happened today that I’m still upset. Left me saying well you figure out what you want to do and give us a call…NOPE. I will not be scheduling nothing with that office or him! I don’t want him near me! How are you treating a new patient like this ? Never going back.

With prior knowledge of my successful opiate abuse treatment....and access to suboxone prescriber, this doctor stopped all opiates without even standard withdrawl treatment (clonidine, ibuprofen, compazine) The necessity of NOT having excessive nausea with an open abdominal incision was also completely ignored (ripped 6 staples) While waiting four days, (for addiction physician)the withdrawl and physical pain from ruptured staples CAUSED first relapse over 5 yrs If you are in addiction treatment, find another office

Sarcastic, arrogance, and pompous

I could not have chosen a better surgical physcian to perform my surgery. The ease of appointments, caring staff and most of all this surgeons knowledge, expertise and bed side manner are 5 star!!

Wrong diagnosis. Scarred me for life and I will no longer function normally after going to him. Does not care about patients needs or the complications he had caused them since performing surgery on them and rectifying his mistake
