John Larsen Clayton, MD

John Clayton, MD is a plastic surgeon specializing in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery at Intermountain Health’s Southridge Clinic – Plastic Surgery in Riverton, Utah. Dr. Clayton, a Utah native, is a third-generation plastic surgeon. His grandfather, also named Dr. John L. Clayton, founded Clayton Plastic Surgery in 1963. The practice was later joined by his two sons, continuing the tradition of skilled surgeons in the family.

Dr. Clayton earned his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Epidemiology before attending medical school. He then completed a general surgery residency at …the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA in Los Angeles, California, and is currently board certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Clayton completed his plastic and reconstructive surgery training at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill and is currently board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Clayton has been actively involved in research during all aspects of his training, including more recent research in breast cancer and breast reconstruction. He has 24 peer-reviewed journal publications and has given over 50 presentations to the medical community. Dr. Clayton formerly served on the editorial board of the Annals of Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Clayton and his wife, Heidi, are the parents of three children. He enjoys spending time with his family and loves mountain biking, backcountry skiing and mountaineering.
