Dr. John Michael Cottrell, DO

This is by far the best Dr. experience I had in my live of 40+ years. Appointment time kept, very communicative, interested in the overall health situation. Not just a drug prescriber. The staff, very nice, very accommodating.

The standard of Dr. Cottrell's office staff is abysmal. You are always told to leave a message - unless you want to schedule an appointment, they actually care about that. You will have to call multiple times to get any response. As for the doctor himself, he seems to just be going through the motions. He doesn't talk to you in any depth. When you have lab work done at his request, his office just e-mails you to tell you where you can see the results. Unlike other doctors, neither he or his staff bothers to contact you to discuss the results. Figure it out yourself! Yesterday I had an absolutely appalling experience with Dr. Cottrell. His office (the receptionist, I think) called me at 11:30 a.m. to tell me that the doctor had authorized a prescription refill that I had requested, and had sent the authorization to Walgreen's. I thanked her. She then told me that the doctor wanted to see me "in a couple of months." I told her that I had switched insurance, and would not be seeing him… again. (I could have been more explicit about my reasons for switching doctors, but decided to be polite.) I then called Walgreen's, which said my prescription refill was ready. I went to pick up the refill at 5. To my astonishment, the pharmacy staff at Walgreen's told me that Dr. Cottrell had called to CANCEL his refill authorization, and that he would not be authorizing refills of any of my other medications. I take this medication to manage a potentially life-threatening disease. Dr. Cottrell evidently cancelled his refill authorization out of pique at my switching to another doctor. He obviously values his own financial situation over my health and even life. This is completely unacceptable behavior for a physician. I have filed a complaint against him with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. There are plenty of excellent doctors out there. Dr. Cottrell is emphatically not one of them. Don't make the same mistake I did and trust your health to this hack.

Doctor was attentive and easy to talk to. I wish I could say the same about the rest of the staff. Not very personable.

The staff, especially Tracy is completely rude beyond belief. All they care about is test results, granted you would have to wait several weeks for your results. Dr. picks and chooses his favorite patients and ignores everyone else. His "PA" is clueless and cannot make decisions for his own and always has to "consult with Dr.Cottrell" who by the way is his uncle. There are many better doctors out there, don't waste your time here. Health care is important and you deserve someone who cares to monitor your well being.

Dr. Cottrell always sees us when we are sick and don't have an appt. We just love him!

HE IS ALWAYS THEIR WHEN NEED HIM. HE HAS A GREAT PERSONALITY.
