Dr. John Croom, MD, PhD

I had to relocate to AZ and am currently having problems with my new epilepsy specialist. I’m considering making the trip back to the KC Metro area just to see my fantastic physician if things don’t improve soon. Dr. Croom is an expert in epilepsy care and he has even treated some of my clients. I am a LCSW and I have clients who have epilepsy and PNES. Dr. Croom has been good with both.

Dr. Croom came highly recommended to me for my daughter by one of his current patients, one of my clients, and another physician. Dr.Croom is a no nonsense Doctor, but very intelligent. He is genuinely concerned about the quality of life you have while dealing with seizures. He truly wants to help you! You will be happy you see him if you have seizures! He is a neurological seizure specialist!

Did not listen to my concerns or questions about my diagnosis. Was very dismissive.

I consulted with Dr. Croom multiple times in and out patient over a five year period. He was dismissive, curt, and appeared irritated by questions and suggestions for alternative testing or care, research, etc. When asked if there could be a correlation between my allergy fatigue and seizure spikes he scoffed. Three years of allergy shots later and I've only been hospitalized once in the past three years. Maybe its coincidental but allergies do cause fatigue and the last two neurologists I've seen since have said, "Anything that lowers your seizure threshold can increase seizure activity." Ironically, that is what I thought but Dr. Croom educated me that I am an absurd psychosomatically inducing fake seizures. He offended not only me but my family. I have since had 7 people ask for references because they've seen him and been displeased. I've have two craniotomies but wouldn't see him as a specialist in this area to save my life; he is that narcissistic and demeaning. I'll keep… paying the out-of-network fees for care at MD Anderson.

Dr Croom is very knowledgeable. Not just wanting good enough, but the very best for his patients. He is very thorough and compassionate. I recommend him to anyone in need of his services.

I saw Dr Croom on three occasions over 5 years. He was dismissive and condescending as was his nurse practitioner. I changed doctors even though I likes my neurologist because if Dr Croom is the best epileptologist St Lukes has to offer, I'd rather suffer. Even my family was disappointed at his demeanor when they asked questions. He treats people as if they must have a mental problem if he can't figure out what is happening. He's horrible just plain horrible.

I initially made an appointment to see Dr. Croom after having 2 grand mal seizures while asleep (witnessed by spouse). It took awhile to get an appointment, but Dr. Croom diagnosed me with 2 different types of seizures. I had been diagnosed 10 years before as having 'panic attacks' but he realized this wasn't the cause, but I was also having petit mal seizures. His treatment has kept me seizure free & no more 'panic attacks.' Even though it can take up to 6 months to get an appt. to see him, I advise patients to make a follow up appt. immediately after initial appt to avoid long waits. I recently started having other neurological problems & I trust Dr. Croom to figure out what the problem is. Even though my appt. is 6 months away, due to the nature of my symptoms, I am on a cancellation list where they can notify me of a cancellation & I can get in sooner. I have seen other neurologists who misdiagnosed me, yet it was Dr. Croom who was the only one who diagnosed me accurately. … It is hard for me to trust doctors, but I do trust Dr. Croom, implicitly. If you are looking for a doctor to 'coddle' you, then Dr. Croom isn't for you. Don't get me wrong. He is polite, but he doesn't waste time either when seeing patients. He answers your questions, but he doesn't go into long detailed explanations, like some doctors do when they try to give explanations that don't make sense.
