Dr. John Charles S Dawson, MD

I went to see dr. Dawson for back pain at an urgent care. I was experiencing significant pain that was radiating down my leg. Having done some reading I was hoping that he would prescribe me oral steroids to help with the pain. He quoted one study and told me I didn’t need them, informing me they would not help. I did my own literature review and found an article published JAMA in 2015 which did show oral steroids do provide benefit for lumbar pain with radiculopathy. He did not give me any of the information for the study he quoted and did not discuss other evidence. He also did not give me the option to be involved in my medical decision-making. I think it’s important that patients are involved in their care and to discuss not just one article with them. I want to have multiple viewpoints discussed with me and then have someone give me the option to made the decision of what is appropriate for my health. Dr. Dawson should reevaluate how he treats patients and also give… them more information before making a decision on the patient’s care.
