From the time I came to see Dr. Desantis, I had amazing service and answers to my many questions. Dr. Desantis performed a double hip replacement, I can return to work after 6 week of recuperation with no more PAIN! Thank you Dr. Desantis

The pain i experience today began the day after surgery and was ignored each time i went in for post op review. The comments were always about how successful the operation was and my pain and discomfort that i STILL EXPERIENCE after two years has been ignored. Oh, yes, x-rays were taken and a lot of back slapping among the doctors took place, but the fact is i wish i had had another surgeon with a different method. The groin entry hip replacement is a flop.

Dr. DeSantis spent very little time with me and never examined my knee, I don't even think he touched it . Looked at x-ray and said I needed a total knee replacement . Most time that he spent talking to me is when he pulled out the brochure for custom knee replacement that he was promoting . Several weeks went by and the swelling had not gone down and I'm still in pain. When I called to request him order an MRI, I got a return call from a girl in the office who told me that the MRI would not be ordered by Dr. DeSantis because he said that there was nothing on the MRI that he would not be able to see on the x-ray . I went to another orthopedic . This orthopedic actually examined my knee and ordered an MRI and spent over an hour with me. The MRI showed that I have a 4 mm meniscus tear and that I no way need total knee replacement at this time and maybe not for another 15 years or at all. Also doesn't think I need a scope surgery but rather recommended physical therapy and other non… surgical options. Had I listened to this butcher, he would have ripped up my knee and apparently paid his Maserati payment. Avoid him at all cost. I will be lodging formal complaint with regulatory agencies. How can doctors like this live with themselves. Disgraceful. I believe Karma knows everyone's addresses.

1990 Head on crash shattered my left arm at and above the elbow. Going into surgery, Dr. DeSantis informed me that I would probably lose my arm about six inches below my shoulder because he didn't think he could save it. I told him to do the best he could. I came out of that surgery with my arm intact and held together with 21 pieces of metal. It would take another 13 months before any bone growth was detected indicating the start to my mending. Though l don't have full motion range of my elbow, I had enough to continue on with my career in Industrial maintenance and am not handicapped thanks to this orthopedic surgeon. Last week, I was referred to Dr. John G. DeSantis of Desert Orthopedic Center in La Quinta, CA, for evaluation and treatment of severe knee pain accompanied by moderate-to-severe mobility issues. I picked up copies of me MRI's and x-rays and the accompanying written results a couple of days prior to my appointment and saw there were listed on those results several abnormalities I didn't understand. I went to Dr. DeSantis expecting clear explanations of each of those abnormalities, as well as information regarding how I developed those issues, whether they could be reversed or repaired, how they might impact my life in the future, all available treatment options, and advice as to the best course of treatment and/or any lifestyle changes that may improve my quality of life. Dr. DeSantis fell far short of meeting any of those expectations. Upon meeting me, Dr. DeSantis did not seem at all familiar with my case. He took a glance at only one of the three x-rays I'd provided and then ordered… two more x-rays to be performed there. After the new x-rays were taken, Dr. DeSantis glanced at those and said, nonchalantly, "You're missing about half the cartilage in your right knee." Without providing any further details about what this meant or how it might progress, he mentioned only three treatment options, ibuprofen, cortisone shots, and total knee replacement. He told me he could do a cortisone injection that day, but that he doubted it would make much difference. I asked what cortisone was and what it did and the only additional information he provided was "It might make it hurt less." I asked for information about the total knee replacement and he said, without any explanation, that he wouldn't consider that for another ten years. When I asked why he wouldn't consider it for another ten years, his response was simply "You don't need it." That conclusion seemed premature to me, since he hadn't asked me any questions about my quality of life, nor even viewed all my tests and their results. I attempted to ask more questions about the total knee replacement, as well as the MRI results that he had neither viewed nor mentioned, but he seemed to have become angry with me. His face reddened, his voice raised, his body posture became aggressive and he began attempting to belittle and demean me. He called my questions and comments "stupid." He dismissed my pain as insignificant because I choose not to take the maximum daily dose of ibuprofen every day. Dr. DeSantis went on to criticize my physician-recommended use of cannabis for pain management, saying "Cannabis doesn't do anything, but you take THAT every day." When I brought up my mobility issues, he dismissed them, grumbling "You walked in here just fine," even though I am nearly certain he did not witness my entrance. I was so shocked by his behavior that I asked "Have I somehow offended you by asking questions about my health and treatment options?" He shouted "You haven't asked me anything! You're just telling me things and you don't know what you're talking about!" I saw no point in continuing an appointment with a doctor who was being, in my opinion, both hostile and abusive. I told him I thought his behavior was completely inappropriate and I left, knowing nothing more about my condition than I had known before I entered his office. Now, I'm faced with more delays in my treatment and disruptions to my life while I await approval to see a different, hopefully more professional and compassionate, orthopedic specialist.

Completely botched surgery. No aftercare. Dismissed pain. Complete redo by other doctor required. NEVER USE HIM

The Doctor was very rude and unprofessional. He told me that I had to learn to live with the pain. He did not give me any advice or suggestions. One of the worst doctors I have ever seen.

Total knee replacement with incredible results.

I felt Dr. Desantis was a complete professional. Thorough,competemt and sensitive.Excellent diagnosis,and easy to handle post surgery recovery.My home health care representatives were quite pleased with the surgical scar and my lack of any real pain.I think he is at least as good as they come and would highly recommend him.
