Dr. John Michael Gatti, MD

I just came across this page and some of the reviews while helping my daughter work on a school paper. She is writing an essay about careers. She chose to write about her desire to be a pediatrician. This desire is primarily due to her great respect and love for Dr John Gatti and what he has done for her life. My daughter was born with a very rare and difficult birth defect. We adopted her at age five from a foreign country. Before we could adopt her, we had to prove we could find medical care for her unique issues. Not only did we find specialists with experience in her disorders- we found one of the best. I am pausing to do this review after seeing that anyone would say even one negative word about Dr Gatti. We have seen more doctors than the average family. Not only is Dr Gatti one of the best in terms of his knowledge and capabilities- but he is one of the most friendly and attentive. Yes, he is late sometimes. That's the nature of his business. He sees patients in… a variety of ways. If he were a general pediatrician, in a clinic setting, and not a surgeon and hear of a department-perhaps he would be able to be in and out of rooms. We've been on both sides of the situations that create delays in his promptness. We are thankful he was able to see us for a last minute, urgent matter and patient when we were the ones waiting while he helped another family in the same situation. It's not like he is just doing it because he is lazy and doesn't care. It is exactly the opposite. He is an incredible doctor and we are blessed beyond words to have found him. Our daughter is able to live a pretty normal life because of this man and his team. There's not one negative thing to say about him (except he wears funny shoes sometimes:)

I am a first time mom. I read these reviews and was horrified by this prior to seeing Gatti. I talked with him about these reviews....and he eased my fears. Im sorry these others appear to have had a bad experience. I was very skeptical prior to my dtr surgery. Dr. Gatti is a good person....and probably carries more weight on his shoulders everyday than anyone ive ever met.....he fixes tiny babies and children.....not an easy task to say the least. My daughter had a UPJ obstruction.....her kidney was dying.....he fixed her.....hes my savior. I thank God everyday for him....and his staff. My dtr was only 3 months at surgery...it was successful. I never want to go back to that scarey day again......he goes there everyday....and battles....God Bless him.

Had a terrible experience(s) with Dr. Gatti. A waste of time for my child to see him. He always runs significantly late. Sometimes over 2 1/2 hours. He spends little time with you. Most importatnly, the surgeries have not worked that he has performed. We always end up having more things done. My husband and I are going to see a different doctor. I would not recommend Dr. Gatti.

Our child had been followed by Dr. Gatti for years. She had multiple surgeries that never seemed to have very good outcomes. But we trusted Dr. Gatti and continued to see him. We subsequently moved out of state. We saw another urologist who was completed amazed and perplexed with how our daughter was treated by Dr. Gatti. She has had to have several repeat operations, but now is doing so much better. Basically what Dr. Gatti and the techniques he used were not good. We are very disappointed that we did not seek a second opinion when we lived in Kansas City. He is not someone we would ever recommend.

My daughter has reflux and recurrent UTIs. She had been followed out east previously. We moved to Kansas City. We looked into who she should see. We saw Dr. Gatti. What a mistake! It took 4 months to see him. Then to top it off we had to wait in a noisy reception area with many upset patients. Why? Because we and others had to wait almost 2 1/2 hours to get back to see him. Then he comes in and says all my daughter's issues are constipation related. He then sends me out to follow-up in the "Duck" clinic with a nurse practitioner. What is a "Duck" clinic Anyhow, we see the nurse practitioner who says that I need to go back to Dr. Gatti after all. That her issues are not all constipation-related. My husband and I are very upset about this! What a disorganized mess! Dr. Gatti was terrible!! The Children's Mercy Hospital system was also terrible!!! We will NEVER go back! We have an appointment in Oklahoma City. I would recommend anyone seeing Dr. Gatti to reconsider.

Our child has spina bifid and had multiple procedures performed by Dr. Gatti. All of the procedures had complications. We could catheterized our child, our child continued to leak, or had urinary tract infections, etc. We got the distinct impression, that Dr. Gatti did not really care or knew what to do? We got so frustrated we saw his partner, who spent no time with us, and sent us back to Dr. Gatti. Dr. Gatti recommended more surgeries . There was no way we were going to have him do more procedures on our child. There were no other pediatric urologists in Kansas City. We went elsewhere and have been so much happier. Dr. Gatti was terrible. We are really disappointed in him. We would not recommend him.

My son has had many surgeries due to spina bifida and the most valuable surgery gave him independence in taking care of his bowel and bladder issues.

Dr. Gatti was so nice and caring. He really listened to me and my daughter. He explained answers to all my questions and told me I could call at any time if I had more questions when I got home. It was also nice to get into the doctors office and not have to wait around to be seen! To top it off, Dr. gatti was funny and made my daughter laugh.

My daughter has had multiple surgeries by Dr. Gatti. The outcomes have been awful! I do not know why I let him operate on my child so many times. He does not care. He spends no time with you. He runs anywhere from 45 minutes to 3 hours behind in clinic, and then you see him only for a few minutes. Please stay away. I would recommend going to another city for Pediatric Urology care.

I had an awful experience with this physician. I waited over 2 hours for my daughter to see him both visits! I would not recommend him!
