Dr. John Carl Goffigan, MD

My wife was rushed to San Antonio Hospital emergency room on Sunday, Oct. 6,2019 and he was able to stop the bleeding from an artery in her abdomen which had ruptured and she had lost much blood. He was called into the hospital at 10 PM after a ct scan showed her critical condition. Her circulatory system is not normal, having been born with a portion of her abdominal aorta which was very narrow and restricted the flow of blood to her organs and lower body. Because of that, he couldn't just block off the flow through the ruptured artery, which would be OK for a person with a normal blood flow through the aorta. It was a tricky procedure because he had to be extremely careful not to cut off blood flow to those organs. He told us before he started the procedure that he liked to take baby steps at first because more could be done later, but if he took a big step which was detrimental, he couldn't repair the damage. He made us feel comfortable with his explanation and humble (not cocky)… assurance that he would do everything in his expertise and experience to give her a good outcome. We couldn't have asked for a more competent doctor, and the outcome was excellent. She was released from the hospital on Oct. 9 after only slightly over 3 days there. I know this a review of Dr. Goffigan, but I have to say that San Antonio is the best there is. The facility, nurses,and all other staff were absolutely top notch in the care and attention given to my wife.

I went to him for a hip injection that required a fluoroscope. I was very scared as I have a 0 torlerance for pain. He and his nurse were very caring and gentle. He explained what he was doing when he did it and told me which injection was going to be painful, but after the first 2, it wasn't near as bad as I though it would be. He has a great bedside manner and talked to me during the procedure to take my mind off of it. If I have to have it done again, I will definetly request him to do it.
