Dr. John Grandrimo, DO, DO

I was in a car wreck, and my back twisted. Couple days later I felt it running down my legs and feet going numb. I was recommended to the surgeon. He’s an awesome surgeon. I’m feeling much better can you stronger communicate with you. He also replaced my father’s right knee did a wonderful job. My dad’s getting around. Much better. I highly recommend the surgeon.

My visit to Dr. Grandrimo was probably one of the worst and most frustrating doctors I have ever experienced. Since the beginning of this year, I have had mysterious excruciating chronic neck and back pain. Before him, I had seen 6 other specialists living in New York. When I saw Grandrimo, I literally waited TWO HOURS and saw him for SEVEN MINUTES. Mind you, I was still having severe chronic back pain waiting to see him and I couldn't sit up. When he came into the room, he was rushed. He quickly glanced at an old MRI I had sent him and told me I had a herniated disc in my neck (which I already knew but strongly believed it wasn't the root of my pain) and tried to prescribe me muscle relaxants I had already taken that didn't help. I had shown him a list on my phone of every drug I had been prescribed that didn't work and told me to follow up in six months. Are you kidding me? I understand he's an orthopedist but he never asked me blood testing and if there was a chance it was… something else, he should've told me to see another specialist. Pinnacle is also the most scatterbrained "hospital" and the spine center is virtual, it doesn't even exist. It took me two months to make the appointment, his diagnosis was completely off, and he literally spent no time with me. He could not care less. (Also, I heard him with a patient right beside me while I was waiting who was dealing with his exact same protocol--go in quick, listen to nothing, prescribe an anti inflammatory and muscle relaxant, leave.) About a month later, I somehow managed to get an appointment with an amazing neurologist from Hopkins and found out I had subclinical hypothyroidism, joint hypermobility syndrome and myofascial pain syndrome. He spent TWO HOURS with me in my consult. Since I've been taking a synthroid, I have been feeling much better. Thank god there are still some good doctors out there.

Dr. Grandrimo performed my acdf surgery and although the surgery was mostly successful there are too many issues with his staff and office wait time for me to continue seeing him. I have spent up to 3 hours waiting to be seen with an appointment that was scheduled well in advance. Refills for prescriptions are not handled in a timely manner or are forgotten by the staff. It is the same with questions or messages left for him. Paper work takes forever to be completed and staff must be called constantly to get it done. This was not the case when I first became his patient but staff changes have left his office in disarry. Lastly, Dr. Grandrimo always seems to be in a hurry to move on to the next patient (which could be due to overscheduling) so I was unable to ask all of my questions and felt that my after surgery issues were not important.

He's proof that a physician doesn't have to be affiliated with one of the larger academic institutions to be considered a good physician. Having dealt with my share of "top doctors", it's refreshing to find a physician who not only knows his specialty, but knows how to treat a patient as a human being-not just another patient.
