Background
Dr. John Harden graduated in 1969 from Georgia Tech with a B.S. in Industrial Management where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He also received the B.S. in Applied Biology in 1974 and was a member of Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society. In 1976 he received the M.S. in Biology from Tech.
He received the D.M.D. (Doctor of Dental Medicine) from the Medical College of Georgia in 1978. At MCG he was the PR officer for the freshman class and was Vice-President and later President of the senior class.
He completed a residency training program in 1985 in anesthesiology at Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago, IL in a program affiliated with the University of Illinois College of Medicine at the Medical …Center Chicago. In this program he learned how to safely relieve pain and anxiety in the practice of dentistry, and how to manage the medically compromised patient. From 1989 to 1996 he served on the Anesthesia committee of the State Board of Dentistry. He also has been an anesthesia consultant for the post-graduate dental programs at the US Army Dental Activity at Ft. Gordon, GA/Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center.
In 1996 and 1997 he studied medicine at St. Petersburg State Medical University in St. Petersburg, Russia in a special program at the University. This training contributed immeasurably to his ability to effectively treat the fearful and medically compromised dental patient in the office and hospital settings.
Dr. Harden has been on the medical staff at Emory Healthcare since 1988, and has treated special needs patients in the operating room at Emory University Hospital - Midtown since that time. He regularly receives referrals for the fearful and medically compromised patient. Since this is a teaching hospital for a major university no patient is too sick or too fearful for his practice.
Dr. Harden was first associated with the military when he was an ROTC cadet at age 17 in 1961. He was in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve in 1967 and 1968, and retired from the U.S. Army reserves as a Colonel in 2003. He was called back to active duty by the U.S. Army after the 911 tragedy, and served as the Theater Dental Surgeon for SW Asia (Chief Army Dental Officer) while deployed to the combat theater.
Dr. Harden is a resident of Buckhead, and currently serves as the President of the Emile T. Fisher Foundation for Dental Education in Georgia. Its sole purpose is to provide scholarships to dental students at the Medical College of Georgia. His wife Jackie trained at Albany Medical Center Hospital in New York and is in the anesthesia department at Piedmont Hospital. They have two grown sons, 4 grandchildren and 3 Shi Tzus (Molly, Maggie and Marley).

Reviews on Vitals are submitted by users only. Recognizing the valuable insights these reviews offer into a doctor's reputation, we maintain internal policies and protocols to ensure the quality and accuracy of all reviews. Importantly, providers cannot delete or alter reviews independently. Reviews can only be deleted or changed following an internal assessment by our customer service team.
Your feedback is highly valued and we encourage you to contact our support team should you encounter any issues.
