Dr. John R Hiemstra, DO

I’m a 73 year old male and have been going to Dr John Heimstra For 15 years. He goes out of his way to keep me healthy doing more than Medicare pays him for. I now live almost two hours and will continue driving for my visits as long as I’m physically able. Yes it might take longer for an appointment but I believe it’s because he is SUCH A EXCELLENT DROCTOR

Dr hiemstra is alwzys very nice and courteous & so is his staff! But if your making an appointment, last yr or so every time, it is atleast a 4-6 wk wait! Absoluetly rediculous that you have to wait that long to get in!!!

I have had many dealings with the Lynden Family Medicine group. Every one of them have been a farce. Dr. Hiemstra, who was my mothers dr, failed to treat a bleeding issue (a 73 year old woman should n't have a problem like that). 3 years later (and MANY expensive tests) she was literally bleeding to death at her kitchen table. He ordered a hysterectomy which ended up with her being away from home for almost a year. (between hospital and rehab) because of complications. My dad, also a patient of Dr. Hiemstra, developed and infection. Again, after many tests, he ended up the same way. Except when the hospital finally sent him to Seattle (the doc there,not Heimstra) said he probably wouldn't make it that far) Needless to say, I WILL NEVER recommend anyone from this "group" in Lynden or anywhere else. I am not accusing anyone, I just want you to have the information. PLEASE make sure you do your research and find a dr that will take the necessary steps to care for you. Otherwise you… may end up with more problems or even death.

Would like it to be easier to get into the dr. Sometimes takes 3 to 4 wks. Just to get appt.

I was finally correctly diagnosed by Dr Hiemstra with a lab confirmed arthritic condition. He is so nice, so concerned, and takes a real interest in my health and lifestyle. I have recommended him to my family and friends.

Dr. Heimstra himself was very nice. The staff could care less about you or helping you. I felt they were very insensitive & quite rude; wether in making an appointment (which good luck to you) or being prompt in calling with blood lab results. Then they act like you are unconvincing them when you give up and call yourself.. I will not recommend this office nor will I return myself.

Dr. Hiemstra was the first doctor after many years of my back/neck pain complaints who took the time to do labs and x-rays and really figure out what was wrong with me. He made sure I was sent to a good Rheumatologist instead of just shuttled off to a surgeon like everyone else did. He really listens and cares, and I never feel rushed. Im so thankful hes my Doc because he has always treats me with respect and never makes light of my health concerns.

I have been seeing John Heimstra since he began practicing at Birch Bay Family Medicine. He then moved to Lyndon, which was not as convenient for me, but I really felt I had a bond with him, and that the care I received from his was very very good. His nurse is also very efficient and capable. I actually enjoy getting check-ups!

Dr. Hiemstra has been my doctor for over 3 years. I've ALWAYS found him warm, friendly and attentive. He listens, is not arrogant, genuinely cares about his patients and I would recommend him highly. I can't imagine what the other person who reported negatively about him was talking about.
