When I read the one review here stating Dr. Holtzclaw was a bad doctor I had to add this. The comment left here was the typical childish response of an addict who has not reached a stable level of recovery and is still thinking like a 'drug addict' just the fact he or she identified him or herself as a 'criminal' pretty much says all I need to know. Dr. Holtzclaw is the main doctor & owner of Camden County Methadon Clinic, aka Urban Recovery. Your SO CALLED 'REVIEW' does not even MENTION this fact. Dr. Holtzclaw works with patients who would send most doctors running. Addicts arw not 'recovered' just because they stop using drugs, far from it. When you start using drugh emotional and I believe intellectual maturation stops & since many of these 'patients' started in their teens the maturity level is enough to drive you crazy! I started using in my 30's after a serious shoulder injury and after 6 surgeries was hooked on the pain killers. Being in a bad marriage and unable to cope I… developed the psychological addiction which is at the heart of addiction to any drug (alcohol included, just consider it a drug in liquid form) there are far more alcohol 'addicts' who do not carry the social stigma of a narcotics addict. Many doctors don't want to treat addicts and will treat someone with a history of addiction like a second class person or better said, a defective person. I have found Dr. Holtzclaw to be kind, funny (you don't work in addictions medicine without a sense of humor) and even when trying to take in the majoriry of the patients from the other Camden, NJ clinic when they closed, (over 900+ patients in a couple of months) he took his time, answered all my questions and gave me a very thorough exam, physical as well as psychological and social, to determine what services the clinic offered were right for me. This was over 10+ years ago and even though I no longer see him very often ( he is a tall pleasant man who looks REMARKABLY like the actor Will Farrel) as I only go to the clinic on a weekly basis just to pick-up my medication. I am past the point in my treatment where I need to attend therapy sessions and simply check in with my counselor once a month) the services are there should I need them. I consider myself blessed to have found solid recovery at Camden Clinic and blessed to have such a wonderful doctor as Dr. Holtzclaw. I could have called myself a 'criminal' 20+ years ago but that was part of the ugly side of addiction. Today my husband and I no longer live in his car, have bought our own home, have a beautiful car and a combined income which allows us to live comfortably and if you did not KNOW I was a Methadon patient you would be shocked to learn that I am. I wish I live to see the day when tje saying "the successful Methadon patient is INVISIBLE' is no longer true. To those running this site I find you EXTREMELY IRRESPONSIBLE to have omitted so muxh information about Dr. Holtzclaw. You would risk damaging a good man's reputation on the basis of sketchy to NON EXISTENT information! Shame on you! Sincerely, Margaret M. Saccomanno
