Dr. John Allan Howland, MD

I almost wonder if this Dr has any credentials ?! Still researching. All I know is that he pretends to be a “primary care” physician when he is a rheumatologist, if he’s even that. My elderly parents are in the small town he practices in and for years I’ve been begging them to find a new Dr. Old people don’t like change and this guy preys on them. My mother went in with a lot of pain and swollen leg. He did nothing but sent her home and did not give her anything , did not do any testing and no instructions (like most of us know to elevate and ice for example) . Two days later my mom goes to the hospital because her pain was so bad and the swelling was moving up her whole leg ! My mother got impatient at the hospital and left before she got results so I called the hospital and they said Dr Howland could get the results himself or simply fax a coversheet and they would send him the ultrasound results. THE MAN REFUSED TO LOOK AT THEM. SAID HE DIDN’T TELL HER TO GO TO THE… HOSPITAL AND CONTINUED TO YELL AT ME SAYING HE KNOWS WHAT IT IS, SHE HAD BLOOD IN HER LEG. I begged him, do to the fact that I was worried it was something more severe (and it was) and he kept literally yelling, I TOLD YOU 4 TIMES I DIDN’T ORDER, IM NOT LOOKING AT IT. What DOCTOR DOES THAT?!?!!? NONE I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH!! Well come to find out she went back to the hospital and found out she had a lot of blood and fluid behind her knee and CELLULITIS!! She was giving antibiotics and home instructions. He then told my mother than she is no longer his patient because he is afraid he will lose his license AND HE SHOULD!! Currently finding all ways to stop this man from practicing any longer. It’s time to retire!

If you see a positive review of this Doctor it was put in by him or his family. First, you are NOT a Patient you are a $ to him. He sets up appointments with Veteran Administration patients. then ask for Additional Insurances. Second, His office is filthy and smells like a moldy basement that was flooded for a year or so. Finally, Shouldn't a Doctor be Board certified to practice in his chosen specialty? He is not according to staff members.

Waited months to get into see him, I was sent by the VA. He told me he would not see me because the VA ( Who set up the appointment that he accepted) didn't send a "Punch Card" for additional visits past my first. He sent me away in pain. I am a combat veteran of multiple tours not a freeloader as he must have thought. I simply wanted to find help for my unexplained arthritis. VETERANS BEWARE!

Treats mentally ill patients as second class citizens. Made the patient sit in the visiting room to be treated and therefor violated HIPAA. Only cares about how the bill would be paid. Asks personal questions that are not pertinent to the reason for the visit.

Not everything can be fixed with a shot! It only masks the real problem. First visit, do not totally agree with his treatment methods.

I like that I can get in to see Dr. Howland easily and that he listens to me and follows up with my needs.

You may have to wait a little longer to be seen at your appt, but it is well worth the wait. Dr. Howland will never cut you short. He will take his time with you, answer any questions you may have and is truly caring and concerned about his patients. He welcomes questions and is wonderful at explaining his diagnosis: He treats his patients with respect, caring and concern.
