Dr. John Hughes

He preformed emergency surgery for abdominal aneurysm. Saved my life. Spent 8 days in ICU and he checked on me twice a day everyday. Came in on his day off and also on Labor Day. Provided excellent care and has great bedside manner.

As part of the SALSA clinic, his philosophy is to make every effort to treat vascular disease by the leash invasive effective means to provide blood flow to an at risk limb. He is very skilled and successful at it. Unlike many others, he considers amputation a last resort, not a quick solution. If you want to keep your toes, feet, and legs, Dr. Hughes and his associates in the UMC SALSA clinic are the ones to see.

The office staff was effecient. Dr. Hughes has a gift and is a master of it. The procedure was easy, and I am fine! THanks to all of you....

Scheduling the appointment with the Vascular Dept was simple; the office staff was very friendly. However, I should have followed my gut feeling and scheduled the appointment with Dr Mills (same dept- longer wait for the apnt.) After waiting a very short time in the dept (located at UMC) I was taken back to the patient room, vitals taken and met with a DR whom is in her fellowship. After speaking with her, and left alone in the patient room for 20 minutes, I finally met Dr Hughes, who returned not only with the Fellow, but with another general surgeon as well (?) reason unknown and never explained to me. Dr Hughes spent ten short minutes with me, before leaving me alone in the patient room (again) for another 20 minutes. Finally, Dr Hughes, the general surgeon and the Fellow returned, spent less then five more minutes with me- Dr Hughes made the determination that it wasn't a vascular issue because I couldn't "reproduce the symptoms." I asked about other possibilities in terms of… testing (haven't completed many, let alone specific blood testing) and Dr Hughes felt it wasn't necessary- no (or any) further testing needed. In his opinion, after less then 15 minutes (total time) My appointment was worthless, and I felt his professionalism and his degree must also be worthless. It seems, and I am para-phrasing here- "unless you have, or have had a blood clot..."- Dr Hughes doesn't know how to be your physician. Pick another DR.

No bedside manner at all!! Didn't seem very knowledgable regarding vascular issues. Very disappointed. No faith in him as a surgeon. I'm concerned about what to do next.
