John Hur, MD

Run as fast as you can!!! He may be an excellent surgeon; however, we never got to that point. I am not a confrontational person at all, but this doctor pushed my buttons. I was going to see him because I needed a right hip replacement. I had had a left hip replacement with an amazing doctor and healed so quickly without any pain. I never took the first pain pill, never had any pain, was driving within a few days and never looked back. At the time my doctor was Dr. Michael Meneghini. He had moved out of town and due to my circumstances, I was unable to go to that location at the time. This is my experience with Dr. Hur — I had a 9am appointment with Dr. Hur and he walked into my room 20 minutes late. The reason he was late was because he was taking selfies with nurses or staff out in the hall and busy interacting with them. Unfortunately for him, my door was open and I could see everything. I had already had my x-rays and was simply waiting for this man. When he walked in he… never introduced himself, and never said hello; however, the first thing out of his mouth was “why is your one leg about an inch longer than the other”? He advised me that I should strengthen my hip before surgery so I went to the PT department in that building. They rescheduled my appointments more times than I care to remember. Ironically, they never omitted to ask me if I wanted to make a payment on my account; however, I didn’t have a balance because I paid the day I received each statement. I mentioned the cancellations and payment question on my next visit to Dr. Hur and he did seem concerned. I’m not sure if this is true, but I heard that he is one of the owners of the PT clinic. I am on blood thinners and Dr. Hur didn’t like the one I’m on, so his comment was “is your doctor old to put you on that drug”? I did let him know that my doctor was approximately Dr. Hur’s age. Dr. Bhatia is a well renowned doctor who does amazing work. Arrogance is not in his demeanor but he goes above and beyond for his patients. He told me he could not do my surgery for 4-5 months when in reality he was not honest with me. I have proof he took people I know that went to see him long after I did and got surgery before the date he had scheduled for me. On the last visit, he did send me to a store in the building to buy things I would need after surgery. The man working there thought I was crazy and didn’t sell me the first thing because he said my surgery was so far off, I should come back closer to the time of my surgery. At the time my legs were heavier and I now understand that for anterior hip replacement you should be smaller because of a boot or something they use during surgery. This man did not have the decency to be honest with me and strung me along for nearly 2 years. I was so kind to someone who did not deserve my kindness towards him. I always thanked him politely. Money does not buy class plus he had no idea I come from a family of doctors, lawyers and engineers. I went back to Dr. Meneghini for my second surgery and it’s the best decision I made. Beside the fact that he is a brilliant surgeon and one of the top doctors in the country, he was extremely kind to me each and every time I saw him. His staff is amazing and there is a reason why they have been with him for so long. Again, I’m sure Dr. Hur is a good surgeon but I’m thrilled I did not allow him to mistreat any longer than he did. This area has plenty of good surgeons without having to put up with this type of behavior.

I was looking for a 2nd opinion on an accident. They transferred me to another dept whoasked me if I was represented by an attorney. When I said yes they said they would not accept my insurance and I would be a self pay patient and have to pay upfrontout of my pocket. COuldnt even get an appointment. I pay 600 a month for health insurance who will cover it and these greedy people in IU need money upfront if they hear you have an attorney. This isnt on the doctor- just this office.

Dr. Hur made the whole procedure a positive experience. Very good work! Extremely satisfied.

Excellent Surgeon. Did not see him after my month visit saw his assistant his assistant is also good.

I had hip replacement in 2011. At that time Dr. Hur was the only surgeon in the Indy area who performed the anterior approach. My experience with Dr. Hur was top notch and my recovery was excellent. Sill no side effects and it’s been 7 years. I am as active as I have ever been. Dr. Hur is articulate, he is a superb communicator and he has a genuine love for his work and for his patients. I would choose him again with no reservations!

Did not look at my files before my visit. Was referred to him for knee replacement. Was extremely rude and unprofessional. Made some very harmful rude disrespectful comments. Said he doesn't have time. Has caused extreme emotional distress. Will be seeking an attorney.

Everyone raves about Dr. Hur. Post-surgery going well so far. Appreciate follow-up & accessibility!

Dr Hur is a superb hip replacement surgeon!

Dr. Hur is clearly a master of his craft and communicates with his patients like close personal friends.

haven't had a problem....been a year........ready for next hip replacement.
