Dr. John L Jacobson, MD

I returned to the E.R. 2 days after my initial visit for a shoulder injury. At my first visit I was told to schedule a follow-up appointment with a specialist but to return to the E.R. if my symptoms worsened. After scheduling my specialist appointment, his receptionist told me that I should return to the E.R. since my symptoms had gotten worse and they would not be able to see me for a few days. I returned to the E.R. and after being triaged and placed in a room Dr. John Jacobson came in and asked me why I was there. I explained my situation and symptoms, informing him that I had an appointment with an orthopedist, a physical therapist, had an M.R.I. scheduled, and had been told to return to the E.R. He rolled his eyes at me and with an un-called for attitude stated that he would not be prescribing me any narcotics. (Which was NOT mentioned once in my explanation of why I was there). He proceeded to tell me that Oregon is 2nd in the nation for abuse of narcotic pain medication… and that he believed my injury to be "self-induced" to obtain pain killers. I have never been spoken to in such a disrespectful and disregarding way. After showing some aggitation for being told that I had intentionally harmed myself for drugs, he raised his voice at me and stated that I was "getting mad because he wouldn't give me narcotics". Again, I had not asked for, let alone mentioned, anything about pain medicine. He then refused to treat me and walked out of the room. This was the worst doctor I have ever encountered. He showed no interest in my injury or in the fact that I had been doing everything in my power to take the correct steps to get the correct care I needed. I'm not sure wether Dr. Jacobson has had past experiences that have made him such a close-minded and rude person, and I understand that there are people in this world that take advantage of healthcare providers, however there is absolutely NO excuse for a patient to be treated or spoken to the way that I was. This was by far the worst and most embarrassing experience I have ever had with a doctor. Please be aware that Dr. John Jacobson has no bedside manner whatsoever and has pre-judgements about people who are trying to deal with being in pain in the correct way.
