Dr. John Alan Kerner, MD

Short version: 2007 diagnosis Dr. Kerner saved our family's life! Our son was very ill at 2 1/2 years old. He had vomiting intermittently and a reaction to the flu shot. Mind you I had a medical background and gave them a ton of information. His pediatrician dropped us saying I was manipulative and argumentative. My son then began to vomit for 29 days straight . In and out of the ER with no answers. The hospital finally sat us down stating we are making our son sick, there is nothing wrong with him and do not return. We told them we do not agree, they are wrong. We left, waited a few days and returned. Dr. Kerner was brought in at day 27. Dr. Kerner decided he would do a nuclear medicine study and an endoscopy. My son had severe gastroparesis (his GI tract had stopped from strep throat he caught 2 months earlier) and severe allergies which attack his esophagus knowns as EOE or eosinophilic esophagitis. This is a rare condition where delayed allergy cells attack the esophagus...it is… a precursor to esophageal cancer. If it weren't for Dr. Kerner expertise and knowledge...the doctor's cheap fall back of Munchausen by Proxy would have left my son vomiting himself to death. He is now nearly 14 years old, a twin, living a vibrant healthy life and is still followed by Dr. Kerner and has endoscopies and medications to treat his condition. Dr. Kerner is AN AMAZING PHYSICIAN WITH THE BEST BEDSIDE MANNER and I would not trust anyone else with my son!!! Trust me, I have fired several doctors, if I say he is the best...he is the best!!!

Our son was misdiagnosed for years by a pediatrician outside of LPCH - when Dr. Kerner came into our life, it took less than 48 hours for a diagnosis and cure. Amazing - he listens and is excellent at diagnosing rare conditions. He has been true life saver in our lives.

I first saw Dr. Kerner when I was 10 for about 3 months, and then again when I was 14. I was having excruciating pain, with a number of GI problems, and other symptoms. Dr. Kerner was never able to pinpoint a diagnosis, and instead at age 10 put me on a strong muscle relaxant that made me a zombie, and then at 14 diagnosed me with IBS. Well, now I am 22 years old, and after 12 years of excruciating GI problems, and no answers, I have discovered that I have Celiac's disease. I cannot believe Dr. Kerner would have never tested me for this. He never did a colonoscopy, endoscopy, nothing! All my current doctors who hear/read my medical records are shocked with the lack of testing that was done. He was a friendly, gently guy, that I remember fondly, but he appeared to be very narrow minded in his diagnoses and thought process. I wonder what my life would have been like, had I been diagnosed sooner :(

Dr. Kerner is one of the most compassionate and knowledgeable physicians I have ever met. He will go the extra distance. He truely cares about his patients.

Dr. Kerner inherited case. His office did not obtain all records necessary, did not confer directly with prior pediatric GI and immunologist, did not request information from previous allergists, blamed parent for regime defined many years previously by colleague at Stanford University, and did not seek to understand the timeline and data points which refuted his diagnosis and caused failure for appropriate tests, knowledge and direction re: patient treatment in at least it's intermediary appropriate steps.Overall: An F
