Dr. John Ying Ming Koo, MD

I have Psoriasis & NO insurance. I choose to go to UCSF Dermatology clinic because of being an up-to-date research facility. What a BIG MISTAKE!! Unfortunately I found out that research & teaching our future physicians is not a priority of Dr. KOO. DR. KOO charges Pts by the min. He says if you ask too many questions or if you want to know about the side effects of your skin disorders, your charges will be higher. He constantly checks his watch & says if I have to answer your questions your payment would be higher. This is a scare tactic for a patient without any insurance. He charged me $391 for 23 mins ($17/min) for a regular check up. Dr. Koos bed side manner is extremely poor & if you have any question, he isn't willing to answer or if he does, he will charge you arms & legs & this is much harder for patients without insurance. I have NEVER seen a physician with such a poor bed side manner & lack of empathy for his patient. I drove 1 1/2 hours to go to UCSF Dermatology… clinic & it cost me a lot of money just for asking him a couple questions. His time limit per patient is 5 mins. He doesnt see his job as caring or taking care of patients problems. He sees his job as keeping track of the mins he spends with a patient. Probably he gets paid extra by keeping track of the mins & seeing as many patients without doing a proper job of diagnosing or treating them. How sick & disgusting our health care system has become. I was sick to my stomach when I left his clinic because of his indifference attitude & I will NEVER use Dr. Koo or visit UCSF Dermatology clinic again. How disappointing is that he is teaching residents or medical students with such a harsh, uncaring & disgusting attitude.
