Dr. John A Mathew, DO

Came for covid treatment at ER today. Dr. Mathew was very good at explaining and brought blankets and pillows since the nurse was busy.

Three years ago I was rushed to the ER with a massive pulmonary embolism. Dr. Mathews was my doctor, I went into cardiac arrest 15 times in the ER! Dr. Mathews revived me every time. Without him I wouldn’t be here today! I’m very great full for him and the whole staff at St. Joseph’s.

This guy is terrible dr. I had 2 visits at Premier Care in Greck Neck NY with this piece of garbage. I returned to this "urgent care" center complaining of chest and abdominal pains after being prescribed the wrong antibiotic by weekday doc at this place. The staff messed up the first EKG so mr Mathew had to do it again. He told me the the blip on EKG results was "normal for a 40 y/o male". This was either a lie or incompetent diagnosis. You would think an emergency doc could accurately read and interpret a basic test like an EKG, esp since the test report indicates "right ventricle hypertrophy" and "right bundle branch block" on the report! A good dr would have known this could be start of a serious problem involving heart and brain functions. Instead this quack, told me I had acid reflux and to take Pepcid. 2 weeks later, I was back in the office, insisting on a Lyme blood test. Mr Mathew refused to draw the blood for over 10 minutes while a nurse/assistant sat in. Finally,… I said I need to rule out the possibility of Lyme after nearly 8 weeks of infection (and 2 prior trips to this inaccurately named "emergency care" center). He sent the vial to Sunrise Labs in Hicksville where the ELISA test came back positive! He and his fellow quack immediately said the test was a "false positive" based on nothing. Instead of sending the vial 20 miles to the Lyme lab at Stony Brook Hospital, they sent it to a commercial lab in California. Wasting more time. I should have been put on 2 to 3 month course of antibiotics esp doxycycline but this guy didn't care. He was only interested in covering up his incompetence, claiming I was fine. He told me to keep taking sleep medicine and dexilant that a crummy GI dr prescribed who hours earlier told me to STOP taking it. Not only did fail to prescribe adequate medicine, he told me to continue medicine that a prescribing dr said to stop taking! Mr Mathews dismissed my obvious Lyme symptoms as a result of "stress" (before it was acid reflux). Needless to say, this caused me stress. I continued to become sicker with Lyme. I've had chronic symptoms now for nearly 3 years as a direct result of this guy's incompetence. Do NOT use or trust this guy. He doesn't know what he's doing and he doesn't care. If this guy cared about my health instead of covering up his mistakes, I would have had a much better chance of treating an urgent medical need. I diagnosed myself and he still messed it up because he doesn't know how to prescribe antibiotics.
