Dr. John Joseph May II, MD

Dr. May has been my doctor as well as my husband's doctor for 4 years now. It takes him about 6 to 7 weeks to respond to your test results (you get them on the patient portal much quicker, but no feedback for 6 to 7 weeks.) Jennifer, his nurse, is very rude when she calls. I'm not certain he is aware of this, but support staff can make or break your reputation as a good doctor. I am moving on and my husband will soon as well. There are just too many good doctors in Kansas City (and even in the same office!) to deal with the frustrations of working with Dr. May and his staff.

I had to go to the minute clinic for a bladder infection & was told to go see my doctor after I was done with the antibiotic to be sure everything was clear. Either his nurse didn't understand or Dr. May was too busy, but I was told to go back to the minute clinic b/c they had my cultures...they don't do cultures so I need to see Dr. May! I'm surprised at the response I received.

You have to wait a long time to see him, but it is worth the wait. He is by far the most tuned-in, smart and caring internist I have ever dealt with. One of his nurses is not great, and can be downright rude. Still worth it. Dr. May takes care of most of my family members, and I'm so glad he is young so I can see him for many years.

Dr. May is very professional and knowledgeable. He isn't in a hurry to rush out, he will take the time needed to ask and answer any questions. He isn't quick to give a prescription without first knowing the exact problem. He is easy to talk to and at ease with the patient. I have highly recommended Dr. May to others.
