Dr. John Duncan Mccallum III, MD

I'll admit my guard was up when I first met Dr McCallum because I had read a bad review on line. So what a surprise it was to meet him. He's amiable and attentive, to say nothing of being a masterful surgeon. (You can't ask for better credentials than that he teaches the subject at Yale.) I'm 84, and I'll admit that total knee replacement is no cake-walk. But after seven weeks I'm basically pain free (now only a couple of regular Aleves daily to reduce inflammation) and in two weeks my wife and I are going on the European vacation that got put off for the surgery. Mid-state Hospital (one day) is extremely well run with friendly, efficient staff. I believe Dr McCallum has something to do with that, too; COS is fully in charge of the large orthopedic wing there. I was very positively impressed with the office and nursing staff as well, and with Star physical therapy. Of course I wish I hadn't had to go through the discomfort of healing, but I am convinced that no medical team could… have handled it better. Thanks, Dr McCallum!

I am just over a year with my total knee surgery at the hands of Dr. McCallum and at age 71 am enjoying the very active endeavors with strength and confidence that had restricted me for many years. I am back to hiking for miles of many degree of challenges, biking this past fall the San Juan Islands off Washington 350 miles, yoga, swimming and kayaking our many waterways of New England. I hope to get on the ski slopes and back on a horse this spring. My 24 hours at MidState facility was totally awesome along with a photo at least 4 x 4 (by happenstance) of me and my husband kayaking on the Salmon River in the fall. We so appreciated the pre meeting totally covering all that would be expected and required for prep and surgery. It has given me many more years of a very active life and even more enjoyment of my young grandchildren. Grandma is ready to play.

Excellent experience with Dr. Mccallum

Seemed pleasant but definately liked himself. Came to us with mixed reviews but still recommended. Our problem ended up being a surgery needed that was beyond his realm-and he seemed unable to just admit that. Ended up we had to go to another doctor who fixed things as best they could- in yet a second surgery. Dr MCCALLUM dismisses things as noted in previous reviews on here; and he doesn't seek other opinions and or respect his own limitations. A second operation was not fun or necessary;and if he only listened...

Stay, stay, stay away from Dr. McCallum and CT Orthpedaic Surgeons! Horrible experience. Office staff are uncaring and incompetent. Saw him once in 2 years. Failed to order my injections at year end resulting in a $2000 plus cost to me. Meeting with him was fruitless as he refused to take responsibility. Office environment is like a cattle pen. Avoid him and this practice at all costs.

He may be a good surgeon (the jury is still out in my case) but he has no bedside manner and never showed any personal interest in my case. After my operation he never actually looked at my knee. Follow-up visits were perfunctory and generally dismissive when it came to complaints about pain.

Terrible office staff. Failed to order my medication in a timely manner. Cost me $2000.

Was condescending, rude and unprofessional gave a complete misdiagnose. The office staff and medical assistant were twice as bad and acted as though you were a complete bother to them. I would never recommend dr mccallum or trust him to do surgery on me.

I had knee replacement surgery. Dr McCallum knows his stuff. He has perfected the meds he gives and in home PT. I am happy to say, he has changed my life. I am doing things in my 60's that I was never able to do in my 50's. I went back to work in 10 weeks with no limp...the first time in 10 yrs. His support team, Sue, Kathy and Joan are wonderful. I recommend him to anyone who asks about my knee.

Dr. McCallum is the best Dr. around here. He always spends a lot of time with his patients. He never rushes you out of his office. He has changed my life forever. I recommend him to anyone needing hip or knee surgery; and Joan, his secretary is a real gem. I don't know what the complaints are about.
