Dr. John R Mcdermott

Visited Dr. McDermott for the first time for a cracked tooth. He looked at my X-ray and told me that he thought I would either need an extraction or a root canal. At the same time, he gave me a novocaine shot. He didn't explain at all what he was going to do. He told me to raise my hand if I felt any pain. After a few seconds of drilling, I felt pain and raised my hand. He seemed shocked that I said I could feel the pain. He said he would give me more novocaine. When he started drilling again, I could still feel pain while he was drilling. I again raised my hand and he stopped and said, "What?" (like I was bothering him.) I told him that I could still feel pain. He began to get agitated and annoyed with me. I finally told him that I wasn't comfortable with what was happening. He forcibly pushed the equipment tray away and said, "fine, then just go, leave!" I was shocked...... then he added, "I should at least put a temporary filling in that tooth." His assistant… explained to me that I really shouldn't leave the office with my tooth exposed that way, and I said that was fine. He put a temporary filling in, and I left the office extremely upset. The receptionist kept apologizing to me, but I was horrified and confused about what had happened. Needless to say, I will never return to Dr. McDermott again. I don't know about his credentials or abilities, but his treatment of patients is worse than anything I have ever seen or heard. I'm not a dental phobic person; I have had orthodontics and dental implants in the past. This was just a bizarre experience!

I never have to wait because he never overbooks like some dentists. Really provides the personal touch. He cleans your teeth and spends your entire appointment time with you.
