Dr. John Thomas Mehigan, MD

My husband saw Mehigan, I can’t use Dr. title, for a vascular issue. Without a thorough examination or reading any of my husbands medical records he said my husband was in a serious medical condition and advised amputation of his lower leg. The surgery must be done very soon because my husband was very ill. How could he come to that conclusion without ever touching him? My adult son was with us and by the time we left the exam room we were in tears. My husband was in stunned silence. Mehigan gave us this news without any compassion and in very terse language as if he was telling someone the results of his examination of a lawnmower that needed repairs. We were in tears all the way home and worried my husband wouldn’t survive the trip. This hospital leaves serious doubts about how they care for patients when they hire people like Mehigan who has a God complex and is an arrogant, verbose, know-it-all.

This Doctor diagnosed my father, a diabetic, with AAA. When it grew to a more dangerous size he suggested my dad consider proactive surgery at Stanford University Hospital to repair the weakness in the artery as it would be unlikely my dad would survive an AAA rupture. My father decided to have the surgery. It was scheduled as the doctor's first surgery on the date selected however the day before it was bumped down to be the doctor's second operation that day. The surgery was performed. My father developed a fever a few days later and bowel sounds never returned. On the 9th day the doctor told my mom he needed to go back in and reopen the abdomen to see why my dad was not getting better and had never been able to leave the hospital. During this exploratory surgery the doctor called on the phone to the waiting room to tell my mom that my dad's entire colon had developed gangrene due to lack of adequate blood supply during and after the first surgery and that he would die in 24 to… 48 hours and they would simply close him up and keep him sedated back n his hospital room until death. Now I ask you - what kind of a heartless arrogant punk would deliver such ingormation to a wife in a waiting room via a phone call instead of doing the decent manly thing and walking there to tell her in person or even take her to a private room in the hospital for such emotionally devastating communication? That pretty much says it all about this doctor. Don't you think?My brother and I were there for the initial surgery then had later flown back to our jobs out of state. We flew back when our mom called to say dad was dying.

The way that Dr. Mehigan treated me, I would not send my worse emeny to him. He has absolutly no compassion!! He left me in tears twice!! A person that does not care about people should not become a doctor!! He is the worst doctor that I have ever experienced in my life and I have gone to many. Some good and some not so good but he is the worst!!

I have had experience with this doctor, both going to him once myself and when another doctor brought him in to see my 82 year old mother during a hospitalization. He is the worst evern enountered - absolute worst. Arrogant, rude, comes in then goes out and when comes back in forgot what had previously transpired. I couldn't get away from him fast enough and had him removed from my mother's case as soon I could.

This is the rudest doctor I have ever encountered. He is very condescending and thinks he is god.
