Dr. John G Meisel, MD

This doctor wants me to pee in a cup like a drug addict to refill the minuscule precipitations I’ve been getting for over 15 years. My precipitations are for a ruptured ligament in my hand that affects the tracking in my wrist. Basically bone on bone and painful. Open heart surgery 4 years ago, my sternum is always sore. Carpel Tunnel syndrome in both wrists. Back problems for 25 years, etc.. And I work an extremely physical job, solar installations. But what would a privileged pencil pusher with a desk job know about pain associated with real labor.?? It’s like Kaiser thinks they can trap you once you move here. ?? He was a pompous, interruptive prick on top of “chipping away” at my medications. Stand up to your insurance handlers/ doctors board and fight for REAL patient care or you’re a shit doctor..

I am fully aware that Maui is short and in need of Doctors but this man is not bright and was clearly in a rush to leave. After 6 years of dealing with the same EXACT problem that I have (medical results & all) Dr. Meisel insisted on giving me the run around having me test for irrelevant issues and then if that wasn't bad enough he ordered me the wrong test which prolonged me from getting the prescription medication that I needed.

Not recommended. I went to him with two separate tests from a colleague of his. He blamed low testosterone on Covid and wanted to do more testing. As if low test is a sign of Covid. What he could of missed was Cancer. He was lazy, and uneducated on causes of low test. Instead of coming up with a a plan to find out. He just recommends the same test be run again. This is how Doctors miss cancers like pancreas cancer. Avoid him at all costs.

Not a good listener. Does not colaborate well other providers. Pushes own agenda. Unhelpful. Changed doctor.

I met with Dr. Meisel three times in the last five months to interview him as my permanent GP and get a few issues dealt with. During each visit he always seemed more concerned with getting out of the room and on to the next patient rather than listening to the patient right in front of him. Today, he prescribed an oral antibiotic for an ear that I have had multiple bouts of irritation with. Without advising with me, and asking me how I would like to have MY ear treated he prescribed an antibiotic to me that would have effectively wiped out my gut chemistry for no reason, whilst I am dealing with other health issues that I have been raising with him. In my mind he is quack, he didn't even think to ask me about topical drops which were recommended by another Kaiser ENT previously and this is in my file. I would take a total pass on this doctor, especially after later hearing other fellow Kaiser staff agree with me that he was not great when I complained during my visit and asked to… see another practitioner.

My family has been going to this practice for several years and I've seen the quality of care decline. As of today our family will be leaving this practice and finding a new primary care physician. On my last visit about a month ago, the nurse disclosed the results of a recent medical test before the doctor came into the exam room. The test was ordered by my OBGYN but dr. Meisel has always asked for copies of reports. Since I was hearing for the first time about a diagnosis from his nurse, I asked dr. Meisel if he could help me understand and explain the condition. He refused to talk to me about it and told me to contact the doctor who ordered the test. I was not happy since it was his nurse who disclosed the diagnosis and since he is always requiring me to send him copies of all my reports. Although I was upset, I hadn't made a final decision about leaving the practice. After today, the decision is made. My son had a visit at 4:30 for which he was 15 minutes late. When he went… to the door it was locked even though the office hours are until 5:00. He knew the policy about appointments being canceled if a patient us more than 10 minutes late but he had hoped to be able to reschedule his appointment. He needed a prescription filled at this visit. He saw cars still in the parking lot so he called the office number. He called it for 20 minutes and it was always busy. At 5:05 it switched over to the answering service. He knocked a few more times and finally at 5:15 a nurse came out and went to her car. He asked her why the door was locked why the phone was continuously busy and she said that because he wasn't there at 4:40 they closed early. He said he would have liked to have rescheduled, knowing he was late, and that he felt like the phone was off the hook deliberately. She told him he was rude for being late and that he better get off the property or she would call the police and have him arrested for trespassing. This is uncalled for behavior. The office is run more like a business. The patient does not seem to matter anymore.

Very caring. Never any wait. All in office are friendly and helpful.
