Dr. John Mikell, MD

Dr. Mikell and the radiation therapy team in Hilton Head put the "care" in medical care. From start to finish, Dr. Mikell, the nurse, Judy, the two therapists, Lana and Glenna, and the dietician, Anna, each did everything possible to keep me fully informed of what to expect, and how to deal with the side effects. Beyond their clinical excellence, each oncology team member showed genuine concern for my well-being, offering constant encouragement as I counted down the course of treatments. Although these treatments are never fun, the entire team made my episodes of care much more bearable than I could have hoped. I am truly thankful for this outstanding team that provided phenomenal care.

Dr. Mikell and his team were the best! I had to have 30 radiation treatments, and it was pretty rough! However, his radiation team, Lindsey, Alex, Kelsey, Glenda & Tommy were always caring and attentive. They were interested in my life and in my side effects. Near the end they showed great concern and interest in taking care of my needs. I can't say enough good things about them.

Dr. Mikell has been a good source of guidance and care - plus I enjoy his interpersonal style. He is energetic and positive and not hurried. His radiation therapy team has also treated me with the same approach.

It is unsettling to be diagnosed with cancer. Fortunately, I was referred to Dr. John Mikell by my specialist. Dr. Mikell was very thorough during the initial consultation. He covered the treatment, side effects and all other pertinent details. He was very patient and supportive during our subsequent consultations. Never felt rushed or hurried. He has a caring manner, and I have the utmost respect for his expertise, people skills and professionalism.

I can’t say enough good things about Dr. John Mikell, the Lewis Cancer and Research Pavilion, and its staff. I just finished a 39-session of radiation treatments for prostate cancer that moved into my bladder. I learned to have full confidence in Dr. Mikell and his treatment plan for me. Dr. Mikell was readily available and met with me weekly throughout the process, and I was impressed how he knew so much about my specific situation, past surgery and on-going treatment. I know that he frequently met with my urologist and they discussed my situation. He never came in with a folder to look over my files, but rather he knew everything about my situation without any notes, including my most recent treatments. I also want to mention how much I appreciate and admire the radiation technicians at the Lewis Cancer Center. My daily treatments were early in the morning, and they were always friendly and welcoming. I got to where I was glad to see them each morning, and they truly seemed… glad to see me. They were exacting in their procedures and offered suggestions on things I could do to help them be extra precise with their treatments and minimize any possible side effects. I was very impressed with all the folks, their system of treatments, and their personal care for me.

Dr. Mikell was recommended to me by my urologist as a great physician whom I would like. He was certainly correct. I was quite impressed the day we met and more so now after having completed nine weeks of radiation treatments. He has the most caring and pleasant radiology technicians that took me through the 44 treatments. Dr. Mikell and his staff were always upbeat and professional. He followed up each week to make sure the treatments were going well and to see if I was having any complications. He and his staff were great through it all and highly recommend them.
