Dr. John J. Moynihan, MD

I was referred to Dr. Moynihan 9 years ago for a small umbilical hernia. He came highly recommended by my Primary Care Physician. I asked prior to surgery, are you going to use mesh, as I don't want a recurrence. He said he would determine at the time of surgery. In the recovery room, I asked, did you use mesh? He said no. I had a bulge after surgery, and a nasty scar, as well as 1/2 inch of monofilament protruding from my abdomen (stopping healing). I trimmed it myself. Fast forward 9 years, my hernia recurred. My new surgeon read the operating report, and Moynihan had inserted a small mesh plug, which is now forever dislodged. Oh, and I tried to make an appointment with their group to review the mess now created. They refuse to make an appointment? FANTASTIC! What an UNPROFESSIONAL GROUP!!!

Had a simple procedure done. He spent time with me and answered my wife and my questions during the initial office visit. He made himself and his practice readily available after my surgery was finished and I was healing. It is not often that you hear patients reporting both a good technician and friendly bedside manner, but this physician excelled in both.I would not put faith in reviews like the other one I have seen on this site that link a doctor's hesitation to give out pain medication to his professionalism. Dr. Moynihan was professional and caring, and did his best to make sure I had the most comfortable and quick recovery so I could get back to my life and work.

I am very displeased to say the least with this doctor. I have several chronic diseases which cause me to be in chronic pain. I take 3 different pain medications daily. I had a hernia that this doctor repaired. Prior to surgery the doctor and I discussed my ongoing problems and the fact that my pain medication would need to different from the standard patient following surgery. I thought we were on the same page. After arriving home from the hospital I find that I have been given a dose of pain medication that is even lower than what I take on a daily basis, let alone following a surgery! I called the office several times trying to get a stronger dose or a different medication but was refused. On my last call to the office I could hear him in the background. He told the nurse that I was speaking to on the phone "Tell her that if she is in that much pain than she can just go to the hospital!" I was disgusted. Luckily I had some left over pain medication from a previous surgery and I got… by on that. I went in for a follow up and saw a different doctor who was much more professional. I do NOT recommend this doctor.

I had a hernia repair. My initial appointment was very quick but it was an obvious diagnosis. My first impressions were very positive of Dr Moynihan.The day of the surgery, the nurses at Fair Oaks Hospital pre-op were excellent and obviously had a very high regard for Dr Moynihan. The surgery was early, which was wonderful. Usually you have to wait for ages. The dr did an efficient job and the wound healed very well.
