Dr. John Paul Olarte, MD

Dr. Olarte is a great doctor in a time of crisis since he likes to overprescribe to be safe rather than sorry. The big issue is after the time of crisis he prefers to keep you on high doses of medicine without considering any external factors and how these drugs do in fact have undesirable side effects that ruin your daily life. Also he routinely forgets to send in medication.

Hello, I have been under the care of Dr. Olarte for several years due to my diagnosis of bipolar disorder. He is compassionate and always offers solid advice. Dr. Olarte has also worked together with me to fine tune my medications, so that I am leading a more productive life. His office staff is also very professional and nice.

Eight years ago, I moved to this practice when following my previous doctor from his original practice in north Raleigh. Upon my original doctor leaving, I was referred to Dr. Olarte as the "replacement" I can say with 100% certainty that this referrel was THE BEST decision I've made as it relates to a qualified, authentic, genuine counselor. Dr. Olarte is very professional and dynamic while remaining aware of my needs and/or questions I may have regarding different counseling approaches in conjunction with counseling the best fits. He has personality and is always punctual. I will note that once my employer benefits no longer covered Dr. Olarte (2 years ago), I did branch out to seek services from someone that was covered. After two visits, I found myself right back with Dr. Olarte because he is truly one of a kind and I would much rather pay out of pocket for his professionalism and attentiveness versus a $25 dollar co-pay to see a counselor whom I was unable to connect with.

The decision to visit a psychiatrist, whether it is for a family member or yourself, can be a difficult one. In my situation, the antiquated opinions of family members that mental illness is a weakness of character or the result of a conscious choice made it a difficult for me. I believe Dr. Olarte recognizes the difficulty in taking that step, in addition to the underlying personal circumstances, and acknowledges this by carefully listening and working collaboratively to come up with a treatment plan. I had seen other psychiatrists for over a decade prior to seeing Dr. Olarte, but the combination of his genuine interest, constructive advice, along with a solid understanding of various pharmacological treatments (that your GP doesn’t necessarily know about) has made a tremendous difference for me. I am so glad I decided to make that first appointment with him a few years ago.

Dr. Olarte is by far the best doctor I have ever seen. He has helped me with so many issues (many not directly related to psychiatry). He is truly pleasurable to talk to and I consider him a good friend as well!

Dr. Olarte is fantastic. I have had negative experiences with psychiatrists in the past, but he put my skepticism to ease immediately. He has a great bedside manner while still maintaining professionalism. He really took the time to understand my experiences and my concerns. He thoroughly laid out all of my treatment options (both psychological and medicinal), side effects, costs, benefits, etc. He provided me with resources that would be more affordable for me for the counseling options that he offers as well--you can tell he is not in it for the money. I have become the person I always knew I could be because of his support. I cannot recommend him enough!

I've been seeing Dr. Olarte for over 2 years and can only say that is an excellent Doctor. He makes you feel comfortable and that really is attuned to your problem, very polite and dedicated.
