Dr. John Pier, MD

I really thought Dr. Pier heard me and was there to help me until I read my chart after seeing him. I have had chronic pain from a neck injury for nine years and when I saw him I broke down crying telling him I couldn’t deal with the pain anymore and essentially begged him to help me find a way to fix it. I thought he was understanding of this until reading that he essentially wrote that I was mentally unstable! I didn’t ask for drugs, I actually insisted I didn’t want them, I just want someone to help me and he certainly didn’t do that. He said he was going to thing of ways to help and get back to me and of course he didn’t. I was utterly heart broken to read that when I thought I had finally found someone to help me. He doesn’t care about his patients and that is clear. A person isn’t unstable because they cry. Especially dealing when with what I have.

I have a workers comp injury to my back. I got a surgery done, and it made my symptoms worse. I've now come full circle and now seeing this doctor again. He had the exact same answer as the first time. Among having to wait over 45 minutes after my appointment time to even get in the room, he quickly rushed through disregarding everything I said. He just "yepped" me. I also honestly felt like he didnt believe a word I said. He just seemed very quick to pass judgment. Not very throurogh at all. Watched me take 4 steps and told me my foot drop wasnt an issue, which I can assure you is a problem for me. I explained it gets worse and worse and he had no interest after that point. He continually doubted me. Not a good experience In the least, either time I've seen him. Nothing but issues with paperwork and no call backs. That being said, he did a couple of injections on me. In that regard he did pretty good. But that was quick and to the point. Do yourself a favor and find another person.

I brought my mother to Dr. Pier for a steroid injection. He’s such a wonderful doctor! His confidence and reassurance made my mother feel at ease during her procedure. She told me that he explained what she should expect throughout it. This made her comfortable as did the nurturing care of his staff after the procedure. She was surprised and impressed with how quickly and hassle free the entire appointment went. Her legs started to feel better shortly thereafter. I highly recommend Dr. Pier and his staff!

Normally i wouldnt consider writing a review, except in this case I feel its warranted. Dr Pier is a professional, compassionate provider. I find him to be a confident and knowledgeable doctor who I believe knows his stuff.

Amazing doctor. Extremely professional, observant, patient, kind, and thorough. His knowledge of his field of practice is excellent. He will go above and beyond to ensure his patient's comfort.

We have tried cortisone injections 3 times with excellent results but the relief has been for a shorter time after each injection. I will be meeting with him next week to discuss a plan going forward. So far, I have no complaints.

I got a referral down to his office because I had surgery there 12 years ago with a different doctor and my symptoms are back. Dr. Pier's nurses, while polite, can only report what he tells them or writes down, apparently he is not reviewing or reading my messages/medical records. The referral addressed two issues and Dr. Pier ignored one issue and told my PCP to get me in to see a different specialty. Then when I talked to his PC about the second ignored issue, she said they couldn't do anything because they didn't have the images of my MRI but that the symptoms I was reporting meant that I would probably want to get down to Portland to be seen the following week. They were finally reviewed two weeks later, after my requesting them be sent twice because Maine Neuro stated they never received them the first time, by Dr. Pier. Sadly the issue Dr. Pier ignored the first time was left off the report from reviewing the actual images. So I again asked the nurse to have him… look at all my symptoms. I got a call back from a nurse today four weeks after my initial MRI and referral, that states that they don't have the images to look but the Dr. guesses from the written report that I could have scar tissue and inflammation from my surgeries. I said-- he gave me MRI image results last week for one issue but not the other, the nurse said oh I see that in your chart, I guess I will leave a message for him. I said I was going to get a 2nd opinion because Dr. Pier had never talked to me or seen me and wasn't even reading all his messages. This is important because they symptoms mirror why I had to have an emergency surgery 12 years ago, I was ignored then because I was only 19 but there was no reason to be getting the brush off now. She then said she'd walk down and have him personally call me back. I'm waiting on that call but I don't think it will do much good. My MRI was done a month ago labeled "rush/emergency" and it's been four weeks and nothing has been done and I haven't seen anyone.

Saw pier yesterday because I am dealing will constant low back pain with radiating pain down both legs. Have seen him three other times for the same reason. He gave me two epidural steroid injection which did not help me. My injury was caused by a fall at work, because it's a worker comp injury he treats you like you're a liar when clearly I'm in pain , asking why do you think you're in pain ? Clearly you're the doctor that's why I'm here to see you. He told me he doesn't believe in no work capacity , when I can barely get around due to the constant low back pain and leg pain. I would recommend to explore other options than him as I am looking for another doctor. I've suffered with this pain long enough

I have PTSD and agoraphobia. He was very well-mannered and supportive as I was having a panic attack and cried through most of our visit. He helped me feel safe, welcomed and treated me with a deep amount of respect. He took the time to make sure I understand my injury and answered all my questions with professional respect.
