Dr. J Poceta, MD

Simply one of the most knowledgable and professional physicians I've ever encountered. I have severe refractory RLS and he has helped me when seemingly no one else could. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Dr Poceta acted like I he did not want to be bothered with me. He offered only one medication that did not help me and then just told me to back to the original medications I was using when I came to him even though he told me they were not good for me.

I just had my sleep study with Dr. Poceta. Patients need to understand that sleep apnea is a serious condition. Having a sleep study is a positive thing. It is an important diagnostic tool. So don't criticize Dr. Poceta for ordering a sleep study. CPAP is the gold standard for treating sleep apnea. The results of my study showed minimal sleep apnea. Based on the results, Dr. Poceta told me I did not need to have CPAP. If he orders one for you, it's because you need it. It's that simple. Dr. Poceta is honest and straightforward.

A poor listener who tends to jump to conclusions without first obtaining the requisite detailed history.

Careful to understand patiemt. Wants to get at root of problem, not just medicate.

After consulting most of the Neurologists and Sleep Specialists in my own city without success, I made an appointment with Dr. Poceta to diagnose my very severe sleep disorder.By this time I was a basket case, having slept little for several years. Dr. Poceta performed a succinct but thorough evaluation and in short order identified my Syndrome, changed my medications - eliminating some and adding one. He explained his diagnosis and the rationale behind his recommendations. That night I had the best sleep I'd had in years and woke the next morning with no drug 'hang over' but feeling refreshed and free of the depression that had taken me over. That was a real turning point. I continued to treat with Dr. Poceta, changing meds as needed. Over the years R. Poceta has always been responsive to my needs and his staff has been courteous and helpful. Dr. Poceta and his staff have earned my respect and gratitude and I consider him to be one of the finest doctors I have had the good… fortune to know over the years.

This doctor is all about getting people into his sleep study progam. He will not determine the underlying cause of your problem but likely prescribe a CPAP. Sleep apnia is as much a symptom of your problem as it is a problem itself, like a fever is a symptom of an infection. He will not work to figure out the underlying problem but pass you off with a lifelong prescription for the CPAP. The CPAP is provided by Apria whose reps live in Poceta's office. Apria is a nightmare to deal with when there is a problem. The whole thing stinks like a dead fish. His arrogance is startling.

Poceta initially wanted to assert, without any conversation, that my sleep issues were a learned habit. Then he decided to put me into the sleep study at the hospital. He fought not to use the home sleep apnea test the insurance co wanted as a precursor claiming now I had narcolepsy. Months later the insurance co. relented and in the first hour they determined I had severe sleep apnea. (months and thousands of dollars wasted.) The CPAP air pump however gave me a severe migraine. Poceta did not review any of the info from the test and billed me a big charge to say I had apnea and should use a CPAP. (Is he not paying any attention?) They sent me home with one I could not use and I am now fighting with them about having deceived me as to the arrangement. He also missed the opportunity to test other physical situations for sleeping during the test. In short his attention to detail is totally lacking and consequently his diagnosis is incredibly flawed. His arrogance is unbounded.

dr Poceta is from the old school. instead of simply doing the least possible, he actually attempts to figure our what is wrong.....what a novel idea.

i went to this doctor on the recommendation of my GP for Botox injections for the treatment of migraines which I have tried several treatments and medications. This was my last hope. The first visit with the dr was ok. He put me on topamax telling me the insurance company would not authorize the injections unless I tried this medication. (I foundq out from my ins. Co. Later this was true and there was no price authorization needed for the injections.). Dr Poceta told me "Denise" would call me after she received authorization. (remember what I just said above). I waited 8 business days and she did not call so I called her. She was very rude to me and stated I could only get injections very three months and why was I calling. I asked her if she had my chart in front of her and then told her that I hadn't received injections as of yet. Her tone completely changed and she said she would contact my insurance for authorization and for me "not to call her, she would call me.". About a… week later she called and said she got it authorized. (I called my insurance company, she never called). So, we set an appt for three weeks later for infections. About 10 days prior to the procedure she called me and told me to call prescription solutions to give them my information so they could fill the Botox prescription. I asked why since I have Medco. She insisted that united health care always uses presc. Sol. She was very nasty and continued to conterdict me. I took pres. Sol. Phone no. And called them and said you don't know who I am do you? they said no, you're not a member (gee I already knew that). I then called Medco and asked if they would cover Botox for migraines. They said yes just have the drs office fax the prescription to them with my member no and they would fill it. I called Denise back and told her all this and she still insisted pres. Sol. Had to be my pharmacy comp. I gave her my Medco member no and told her fax my prescption. Long story short... 3 days bedsore my procedure she was still trying to get Botox from presc. Sol. When I got to the appt the nurse asked me if I had the Botox! The dr came in and I tried to tell him everything this idiot had done. He wouldn't listen and asked why I was so mad. I told him I literally spent 4 hours of my own time doing this idiots job. He told me my choice was to pay for the Botox myself ($1500) or reschedule. I told him no thanks I would find another doctor. I even at one point to bring Denise into the room and he wouldn't. She is incompetent and a liar. There is a lot more to the story but at least the insurance company and the two pharmacy company's caught her in her lies and have her recorded on a couple of calls lying to the. I found out today after I got home, she never sent a prescription to Medco. Oh, Denise also told me that if my supply didn't come in in time for my appt, that they have a supply in stock and they would just replenish with mine. Dr said no. They are all a bunch of liars. And this is SCRIPPS
