Dr. John Thomas Raftery, MD

Dr. Raftery is excellent. I am a changed person because of him. Not only he is successfully treating my disorder, but he also helped me realize who I really am. I am a better human being because of him.

The man is smart. He is willing and capable to work with patients who have complex problems. Good with medication management. He won't "throw in the towel" (like other psychiatrists do) and send you someplace else. He can be kind of sensitive at times (and won't return phone calls for 2-3 days) but he really is good.

Dr. Raftery has been working with my 18 yr. old son for 2 months and my son has shown tremendous, positive changes. Dr. Raftery is not the psychiatrist of today that listens to the patient for a 15-30 min. appt. and then writes a prescription. He actually spends a significant amount of time talking to our son and then to me or my husband. We are there for over an hour each time, and he knows what to say to my son and how to say it. In the last two weeks we have received 3 phone calls from teachers and the school psychologist saying how excellent our son is doing, and how happy he seems. I think Dr. Raftery is a genius, as I have a sister with mental illness and I know how many years, and how long she suffered until she found the right doctor and the correct medication. I feel blessed to have found Dr. Raftery who was recommended to me from New York Presbyterian Hospital. He does not have a fancy, modern, techno-savy office, but he knows his stuff, and that is what makes him… exceptional.
