I would not chose Dr. Ricci as a Dermatological Surgeon again. He was Skilled but at my Initial 'In-Take' appointment, my Wife was not involved in his perusal of the pre-surgery exam. My Organizing Physician/Internist is treating me for "White-Coat Hypertension" ... he referred me to ProHealth Dermatologist Dr. Ricci, with the thought in mind that Dr. Ricci would provide treatment for my Dermatological Surgery with the same care that my Internist provides for Hypertensive Patients.
After a 35-minute wait in the Outer Patient Room, I was then rushed into the Exam Room and my Wife was Not included in the pre-Surgery Exam. However, my Wife WAS included, after the Exam, in the pre-Surgical discussion in the Dr. Ricci's office.
I was scheduled for 'Out-Patient' surgery and, upon arriving at the North Shore University's OutPatient Surgery Clinic, I was told to get Completely undressed. This made me my Wife and I VERY uncomfortable and, unbeknownst to us Both, this was only the First… step in the process of Surgery which lay ahead for which we were Both EXTREMELY Unprepared.
I was then led into a pre-surgery Exam "booth" where I had to wait for an "Intake Exam." All the waiting Definitely contributed to raising my Anxiety level, as my Surgery approached. The 'Pre-Surgery Intake Exam' involved a few delays on the part of the person taking my Blood Pressure, which Further contributed to Stressing me out, as my Surgery loomed ahead. Dr. Ricci came by after about 1 hour of my Waiting for him to read over the "Pre-Surgery Notes" in my file.
Then I was escorted, unbeknownst to me, into a "Surgical Theater" where Many "Medical Students" surrounded Dr. Ricci AND His STAFF as well !!!
I was helped up onto the "Surgical Platform," surrounded by @ least 12 people !!!
So, you can All tell that I was Totally " Terrified " and my Blood Pressure " zoomed Up !!! " As a result of a blood pressure "reading" of Way over the " Acceptable Reading " in order to perform Surgery, I was Dismissed !!!
This was the Most TERRIFYING, UNACCEPTABLE situation that I had Ever been " Medically " involved in !
And then, During a snowStorm, I was told, " Have your Wife drive you to your Internist on the SouthShore from NorthShore Manhasset University Hospital to have Him take yet Another bloodPressure reading ... (at which time my Internist faxed a 2nd Blood Pressure medication Rx to my Pharmacist on the South Shore of Long Island.
After one week on the 2nd blood pressure medication, my Internist contacted Dr. Ricci, personally, and they arranged for Dr. Ricci to reschedule my dermatological procedure on my left thigh to have a minor pre-cancerous lesion removed, under anesthesia, yet Again.
When I arrived at the North Shore University - Manhasset OutPatient Clinic for the 2nd time, I was ushered into the 'pre-Exam' room and my blood pressure was taken once again. It was now still High, but considered a sufficient reading for me to get completely undressed, for the 2nd time, in preparation for Surgery.
Once again, I was ushered into an "Operating Theater," but "This Time" I was Prepared for the Huge viewing Crowd.
I thought to myself, " If only Dr. Ricci has informed me, in advance, that I would be under this " High-Pressure " situation where a Class of new Medical Students would be witnessing My Surgery for Them to receive credit in Medical University --- then All of My anxiety would have been " quelled. " and all of that "travelling around, by myanxiety-ridden Wife, who HAD to drive me home from the procedure, " by Law " ... during a "SnowStorm," would have been avoided.
As a result of Our Actual Experience detailed above, and the fact that Dr. Ricci, who is hearing-impaired, and often cupping his hand over his right ear as I was answering his "pre-Surgery questions," which made it Extremely Difficult for my Wife and Myself to rate his "Very Skilled Dermatological Expertise" EXCELLENT/5 *****,
it is Very Unfortunate that I am Forced to give him a Rating of "-0-" for : " B E D S I D E M A N N E R !!!!! "
