Dr. Roane is a native Texan who, outside of his time served in the military and traveling, has spent most of his life in the Houston area. From a very young age, he knew he wanted a career helping others; thus, making plans to achieve this goal. After graduation from Missouri City High School in 1959, he enrolled at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, where he majored in Pre-Dental with a minor in Philosophy and Theology. Dr. Roane completed his BA Degree in 1963. Following graduation from St. Thomas, he attended the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston, where he received his DDS in 1967.
Immediately after dental school, Dr. Roane voluntarily joined the United States Army where he served two years of active duty. The first year, he commanded the dental clinic at Camp Essayons, Thailand; the location of the 538th US Army Engineer Battalion. He was responsible for the dental care of nearly 2000 soldiers. After this year, he was transferred to San Francisco, California, where he served as a member of the dental staff at Letterman General US Army Hospital at the Presidio. After his release from active duty in July 1969, Dr. Roane transferred voluntarily into the active Army Reserve. At this time, he returned home to Houston where he performed his two years of graduate studies; earning him his Residency Certificate in Periodontics in addition to his MS Degree from the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston.
During a military career of nearly 36 years, Dr. Roane served his two week assignments all over the continental U.S. and Central America.  He completed the Branch Officer's Basic Course, and the Branch Officer's Advanced Course. Along with service ribbons acquired, including the Vietnam Service Medal, he received three Army Commendation Medals and the Meritorious Service Medal.  The MSM is one of the highest ranking medals awarded to a non-combatant. In January 1991, Dr. Roane was mobilized for service in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. During ten months of active duty, he served in a support capacity at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas; Camp Shelby, Mississippi; Fort McCoy, Wisconsin; and Fort Dix, New Jersey. In 1994, he graduated from the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Dr. Roane retired from The US Army Reserve in 2002 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Always the student, 2006 proved to be another exciting and busy year for Dr. Roane. He completed a six month Preceptorship in Dental Implantology at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas. He followed this with achieving a Fellowship in the International College of Osseointegration (FICOI). And, as if this were not enough for one year, he received is Masters of Arts in History from the University of Houston.
During his years of practice, Dr. Roane has attended many seminars both short and long. There are too many to mention here, but these certificates are all on file in our office. On a number of occasions, he attended one week courses given by the US Army at Walter Reed Army Hospital and the US Navy at the National Medical Center, both in Washington, D.C.
In his spare time, Dr. Roane enjoys writing, reading, playing the guitar, tactical pistol shooting, wood working, and camping. For five years, he served as Chairman of the San Jacinto County Historical Commission; an organization established by the State Legislature to protect the historical and cultural assets of the State of Texas which works closely with the Texas State Historical Commission in Austin, Texas. And for thirteen years, he has served as Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scouts of America Troop 845 in Coldspring, Texas where his son, James, received his Eagle Scout Award.
