Dr. John Frank Schneider, MD

Dr. John F. Schneider was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, graduating from Walnut Hills High School in 1968. He attended The University of Michigan where he played on the varsity golf team and graduated with a BA degree in history With High Distinction. He then attended Boston University School of Medicine where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and achieved multiple honors, including the inaugural Chester Scott Kiefer Scholarship Prize, The Boston University School of Medicine Alumni Award of Merit, The University Hospital Student Prize, The John M. Murry Award, and The Phi Delta Epsilon Award for the Member of Class Most Outstanding in the Art as Well as the Science of Medicine. He was an intern and resident in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, completed his cardiology fellowship at The Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston (now Brigham and Women’s Hospital) and was a research and clinical fellow at Harvard Medical School from 1976 -1980. While doing this …training, he worked extensively with the world renowned Framingham Heart Study where he published many pioneering papers on the clinical and prognostic significance of electrical conduction abnormalities of the heart.

He joined the Cardiology faculty at The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1980, where over the next fifteen years; he rose to the rank of Professor of Clinical Medicine. During that time he served as Director of the Cardiac Catherization Laboratory at University Hospital as well as Director of Clinical Affairs for the Cardiology Division of The Department of Internal Medicine.

In 1983 he performed the first coronary angioplasty at The University of Cincinnati and in 1986 performed one of the first percutaneous aortic valvuloplasties in the Midwestern United States. In 1995 he was one of the founding partners of The Ohio Heart and Vascular Center, which has since grown into one of the largest and most respected group of cardiovascular physicians and surgeons in the region. Since 2005, he has served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of The Ohio Heart and Vascular Center, which in 2008 affiliated with The Christ Hospital. He now serves as the President and CEO of The Christ Hospital Cardiovascular Associates, the entity formed by that affiliation.

Dr. Schneider has published over 40 scientific articles and abstracts in peer reviewed journals, as well as many book chapters and a single authored text book, "Key References in Cardiology". He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Intervention. He has been named one of America’s Top Cardiologists every year since 2005, as well as one of Cincinnati’s Best Physicians many times by Cincinnati Magazine. He has maintained his active clinical practice of General and Interventional Cardiology over the past 30 years in the Greater Cincinnati area.

He and his wife Ronna, a Professor of Law at University of Cincinnati College of Law, have three grown children and live in Amberley Village.
