Dr Southerland is a very comfortable doctor. His communication is on point, answered all my questions and is very knowledgeable in his field of expertise. I will need him for many years to come. Thank You Dr. Southerland

Dr. Southerland is one of the most caring and knowledgeable Doctors I have found. And being a doctors wife, I am very particular. He takes the time to talk to you and explain( although he is a fast talker LOL)Without rushing you. The only problem I’ve heard and not experienced myself, is that it’s hard to get in touch with him. Be persistent he’s worth it.

You decide: I needed a colonoscopy asap for a cancer diagnosis-was told they wouldn't do it for 3 months. Another doctor of mine called them to say it needs to be done now in the hospital outpatient unit with an anesthesiologist because I was on a blood thinner. They refused to make the changes. After weeks of going back and forth, they tried twice to schedule me the day before the procedure even though it takes two days to safely get off the blood thinner. They did it again and then finally said they would schedule me with an anesthesiologist but in their clinic, not the hospital. Getting desperate, I agreed. I went to the clinic and was then told there will not be an anesthesiologist. Because of another complication, they ended up having to send me to the outpatient hospital setting to have the colonoscopy done, which is what was requested in the first place. These are highlights. There was plenty more. I will never go back there.

I have NEVER been able to get a real person the 1st 3 times I call and leave a message. NO ONE ever answers the phone, let along call you back, when leaving a message. I was having a reaction to a prescription and called to find out what I should do. no one called me back. I called after finishing the meds even with the side effects to set up a lab apt. (they wanted me to let them know when I finished to do blood work) NO one answers the phone or calls back. Dr and PA were great

Dr. Southerland is by far one the best doctors we are lucky to have! In addition to being a dedicated professional, he is also a really nice guy! Explains everything in detail and answers questions with a smile! Thank you Dr. Southerland!

Since transferring over to First Physicians Group the staff and Doctor are disorganized and rude

Dr.Southerland advised me to continue taking a "step" medication which I experienced,& reported an adverse intolerance/syndrome. The day I started APRISO, I became deathly ill. Prior to taking APRISO I was healthy, kayaking a few days earlier. I suffered for 20 days, called 14x pleading for an emergency appt. He did not return one call. This neglect resulted in 26 days- hospital & emergency surgery, due to a perforated colon. I almost died. My records are inaccurate & false. Medical Negligence!

I have severe U.C, he diagnosed me and for every flare he'd always put me on prednisone, causing sever depression, and now have osteoporosis, never gave me more treatment options, never listened to me as a patient, I usually always saw his PA which I love but him as a DR I rarely saw. I switched Gi asap.

The best and brightest gastro Dr in town. He never makes you feel rushed, hurried, listens, never trivializes. He thinks through everything and is n incredible diagnostician.

One of the kindest, most considerate, compassionate and just nicest doctors I have ever met. I am an R.N graduate of the Mass. General Hospital, so I know of what I speak. I highly recommend him.
