Dr. John Edward Stabel, MD

I went to Dr. Stabel for lid surgery; I was told that he was "one of the best". Imagine my surprise when I came out of surgery to find that he had extended the incision beyond my lids to about an inch into my temples. I was shocked! He had told me that he would make the incision on my lids and that I would have thin scars that would fade into the crease in my eyelids. Now, I have scars that extend beyond my lids. He apologized later for not giving me the complete information; in fact, he said that 90% of his patients need this type of incision because of hooding beyond the lids. I felt that he broke a bond of trust with me by not giving me this information in advance. Had he told me about the extended incisions, I would have gotten a second opinion from a plastic surgeon who would make smaller sutures. As it stands, the scar on my right side is blending in with crow's feet; however, the scar on the left is vertical and completely goes "against the grain" of my wrinkles. It is… quite obvious that I have a jagged scar on my left.

I have just recently had cataract surgery with Dr. Stabel, and I was totally impressed! He makes every effort to put one at ease, solicit and answer all questions, and reassure as he works. Further, he has the absolute respect of the staff who works with him at Chico Surgery Center. When he finished, he told me I had done fine and then went to the waiting room to talk with my sister. I recommend him without hesitation!

I went to see this ophthalmologist years ago because of a laceration to my eye. He was so rude that I had to see him for such a small thing??. Bedside manner terrible
