Dr. John Arthur Steubs, MD

I am very pleased with Dr.Steubs and his staff . He took time to listen to me and my concern. I could not ask for better care.

I seen a doctor there 2 years ago and all set for a knee replacement but my wife and I were told that I only needed meniscus tears cleaned up on both knees and will be good for 6-8 years! I didn't really want that, but thought we better go with his diagnosis. BIG MISTAKE! After the surgery he came out and told my wife that they were worse than he thought and might get 3-5 years before total knee replacement.I went through therapy and they were feeling better for about 6 months! Then the dailey pain was back. Now pretty much back to taking Ibuprofen or Relief Factor every day! PLEASE go someplace else for a second opinion before making your decision! I wish I would have!

Dr Steubs has operated on both my shoulders & a total knee replacement! All with AMAZING results! Also, Laura is a great assistant! GREAT TEAM!!

In 1991 I consulted John A. Steubs to operate on a sub-talar conjunction (birth defect below right ankle) with a procedure: triple arthrodesis. This was supposed to forestall arthritis. (The left foot had been done successfully by another surgeon in 1963.) This entails breaking the three-way ball-joints and re-setting them. Evidently, he didn't reset all three correctly. He made no attempt to "match" the two feet, so that it has been very difficult to buy shoes: the right arch is too high and there is 1/4 difference in the shoe sizes. In addition, he instructed me not to do any post-op stretching of the tendons of the foot, as this was "a different surgery". This resulted in hammertoes, damaging my posture and aggravating a congenital scoliosis. I now walk on my right toenails, which repeatedly split horizontally right at the quick. When I went back to ask him about the rapidly-growing lump on the bottom of my foot (the tendons bunching), he made a face and said that he had no idea… what it was. Eventually I had to use a cane. The first podiatrist I consulted looked at my foot and cursed openly, then suggested some padding at the toe. Orthotics have not really helped. The second (a month ago) has suggested taping down the right big toe, which has helped to restore my balance and gait, but opens the prospect of an additional surgery, which my hematologist thinks inadvisable at my age and present state of health. The re-hab doctor I consulted indicated by a facial expression that he sees other patients who had a poor result with Dr Steubs. I know that this report is long after the fact, but I hope by making it to alert other persons to the pitfalls of coming under the the hand of this thoughtless, careless provider.

My daughter went to Dr. Steubs after her first doctor didn't catch bone chips in her ankle. Dr. Steubs was awesome. He clearly saw the bone chips, cleaned them out and gave us pictures of the ankle pre and post operation so we could see what was done. We've had follow-up with Dr. Steubs and he is very good with asking and answering questions. He is a first rate doctor!!
