Dr. John Charles Swearingen, DDS

     Dr. Swearingen’s early interest in science and medicine, his creative nature and enjoying working with his hands drew him to the dental profession.  These skills combined with his commitment to making a positive difference to others have made dentistry a perfect match for his life.
     After attending high school in San Jose, Dr. Swearingen followed in his father’s foot steps by attending West Virginia University, home of the Mountaineers, and where he met Deborah, his wife of 35 years.  After graduation they moved back to California to begin his studies at UCSF Dental School and settled in Turlock to begin raising their family.  They are both avid community volunteers.
     Over the years, ‘John’ has remained enthusiastic about dentistry, “because it is a challenging and ever changing profession and provides ongoing opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others.”  One of the things Dr. Swearingen finds most fulfilling is working with his …team.  “They are dedicated to the patients and the practice, and they have learned to lead themselves and each other.  They continue to challenge themselves by learning more about dentistry, our patients, and themselves.  Their growth is evident both professionally and personally.”
     Dr. Swearingen’s philosophy is to assess his patient’s present situation and health and provide them with the vision and treatment choices so they can reach their highest level of desired health, function and comfort.  Dr. Swearingen leads his team to encourage timely care so results in quality and longevity are most predictable.  “We know delayed treatment often results in considerable additional financial investment.  My team and I do our best to help patients minimize preventable expenses and we enjoy enhancing patient’s smiles if that is their focus.” 
     Personally, Dr. Swearingen and Debbie are ‘empty nesters’ who have raised two wonderful children.  He loves scuba diving and anything that takes him outdoors, including motorcycle adventures and staying fit by running (even an occasional marathon!)  It is important to him to make a difference in the world so he is actively involved in Rotary, his church, and life success seminars which give him the opportunity to inspire others to ‘live their best lives.’ In his spare time, he enjoys listening to all types of music, playing with his cats, cooking creative meals and enjoying great wine with family and friends.
