Dr. John A Tanksley, MD

Dr. Tanksley treated me as a human being, not just a patient. He spent time to answer my questions and to help me know how to take care of myself as I recuperated from my ankle surgery. As a result of his excellent care, a recuperation period of three months was shortened to six weeks. I would recommend him to anyone in need of an orthopedic surgeon.

I had rotator cuff surgery and was pleased with the whole process from start to finish. Dr. Tanksley is a very professional and caring surgeon. Even though my shoulder was in really bad shape, I have full use of it now. I would recommend him for any orthopedic need.

Dr Tanksley saw me over a 4 month period a couple years back for my knee pain. He was thorough, and very professional. I received clear messages from him about the potential diagnoses and I didnt seem eager to rush to surgery like some other surgeon I've seen. My family and I highly recommend him if you're in the area.

I had a blown out rotator cuff and torn out biscep tendon that needed repaired. I was referred to this doctor by my rheumatologist, since they both practiced in the same medical facility at the time, Ferrell-Duncan Clinic in Springfield Missouri. Initial visit seemed short and was set up for surgery. Surgery took place at Cox Walnut Lawn and the whole day was a nightmare from start to finish. The nurse that placed my IV just rammed the IV into the top of my hand and it made my entire arm ache. I have had many IV's in the past and never had one hurt like this one did. You could see the pressure of the dressing causing the IV to literly pop up towards the skin surface. I finally complained enough and they had a different nurse set a new IV and the new nurse did comment that the other one was seriously messed up. Then a nurse came in and announced that my surgery would be at least an hour late due to some sort of staff meeting. I waited for nearly two hours past my scheduled… surgery time, before finally being taken in. Post OP was the most horrifying and painful experience I have ever gone through. They told me they could not get the pain block set up properly and I had to endure the worst post op pain I have ever experienced. I was never told that this was the most painful surgery a person can endure and never told that a pain block would be needed and possibly not be able to be set and would have to endure the full on pain from this type of surgery. Then the doctor came in to explain my post op instructions and he told me to start using the shoulder right away. Then he got a confused look on his face and said I shouldn't use it at all for at least 2 weeks. So which is it? Then he scheduled me for rehab to start in 2 weeks, so I assumed the second direction was the correct one. Trouble is, now not only is my shoulder still messing up like it did before, but now I have my collar bone popping in and out everytime I move my arm.I ended up seeing another surgeon and he advised another repair surgery.
