Dr. John Randolph Vann, MD

I went to see Dr Vann about nmy knee. He rushed in asked questions, but did not take the rtime to let me answer the questions. Felt like he could care less about me. I don't trust drs that act like they have better things to do.

IMHO the best doctor is one who is or has gone/going through the same thing he is treating you for. I see Dr. Vann for knee problems. He also has knee problems. He is one of the few doctors I’ve seen who still cares about his patients.

Dr. Ridgeway scheduled a MRI . It showed a piece of cartilage in my knee. I got an appointment with Dr. Van. First he said it could be nerves . I had that checked and it was ok. Next it could be bad circulation. I had that done and again ok. He totally ignored the piece of cartilage. Finally he scheduled surgery. Saint Francis only gives a day no time till the day before. Was told to be there at 7:00 am. We got there and was told I wasn't to be there till 9:00. Waited until at least 2:30 pm. I think he rushed it and screwed up! My pain is worse now. He said I had to see replacement Dr. Dr. Ridgeway tried several procedures and none worked. He recommended pain management. I asked if arthroscopic surgery might find something and he gave a quick and flat out NO! Made me suspicious . I am going out of town.

Excellent doctor. Calm bedside manner. Outcome of surgery has been very good. Would not hesitate to go there again if needed. Very friendly, professional staff.

Dr. Vann Is an excellent doctor. He used arthroscopic surgery on my knee which had torn meniscus on both sides as well as torn cartilage. He also had to put 3 pins in my shoulder as my rotator cuff was completely torn. He has a very calm demeanor which helps to put you at ease about having to have surgery. My surgery seems to have been very successful.

First rate in every way!

I have had only good experiences with both Dr. Vann and his partners. When my chronic knee problems got to the point I had to see a Dr. I liked the fact that he sent me through a course of P. T. to see if I would get any relief that way before we talked about surgery. When this did not help he went next to the least invasive procedure possible, arthroscopic surgery. This worked very well on one knee but not so well on the other. At that point he reluctantly decided that he had to do an A.C.L. replacement. That solved the problem. I was very pleased that (even though he is a surgeon) he did not jump immediately for a surgery and that, when he did, he went for the least invasive option (arthroscopic) first. He clearly and patiently explained my options and took the time needed to make sure I understood. He touched bases with me both before and after the surgery. If you are expecting to have your hand held or be told 'you poor baby, here are some pain pills.' this is what you're looking… for, keep looking. If you want a very good, experienced, orthopedic professional, and are willing to work with him in your recovery (I have even had him tell me not to push so hard) this is the Dr. For you.

I had a severe upper body skeletal injury that was referred to Dr Vann from the er and required surgical repair quickly. I was easily able to see Dr Vann and schedule my surgery in short order after a short office visit. I found Dr Vann to be courteous, efficient, amd very effective at communicating my break and the necessity for surgical repair as well as the process. On the day of my surgery he visited preop and again explained all to me, reviewed the outcome with my wife postop, and called me later in the day to discuss outcome and expectations along with my pain management. While i was never coddled, I very much felt informed at all phases and appreciate Dr Vann's effectiveness and efficiency in my treatment.. He fully enabled me to understand comprehensively and be treated without unecessary delay or wasted energy or time.

This man needs to be in another field. When I half managed to tell him what caused my injury, he looked at me like he didn't believe me. My instinct said LEAVE. I didn't. He did fix one problem but I feel he created another life changing one and he kept saying, "give it time". I have an appointment with a colleague soon and hope to get one answer to one question. No recommendations for future care or how to try and live with this. Do not see him. I doubt he even knows what "bedside manner means. I don't even want to give him 1 star.
