Awesome Doctor

I have been going to Dr. Velky for about 20 years. He is one of the most compassionate people I have ever met. Also has a wonderful sense of humor! Took care of my mother during the last years of her life and she loved him!

He is the best. His PA is young but, growing. I was surprised to read all the negative comments about his staff being rude. They have all been very nice and pleasant to me.

Dr. Velky is a great doctor and even better person. Unfortunately, recent changes have limited his availability, leaving you subject to inexperienced PA's, uncaring nurses, and the rudest office staff you'll ever encounter.

I love Dr. Velky. I Have been a patient for over twenty years. He is a great doctor, has caught two cancers I have through blood tests. He has done everything from remove moles, to relieve colds. All in a professional, understanding, and friendly way, even with not so good news. You could not find a better family doctor. 5 stars. Only a 3 star rating because of his staff. Staff gets 1 star. I have called his nurse 4 times to make an appointment for blood tests over a period of 10 days or so. I am running low on a prescription and need tests to see where I am at. You cannot speak to her, you have to leave a message. None have been returned. His staff is provided by University Hospital and now longer has control over his staff. Sad.

Love Dr. Velky. Hate the office staff; they are rude and unfriendly. Now that Dr. Velky has had to join University Hospital to stay in business due to the ACA mandates, he is inaccessible for same day appointments for sicknesses. Some UH bureaucrat micromanages his office including staff, hours and patient access. Dr. Velky no longer has any control over his medical practice. He's a UH employee. There is a high turnover rate of his PAs and NPs, so if you get in to see one of them, it's a different person every time and no continuity of care. Then when you need a prescription refill, they will not do it if you haven't been in to see Dr. Velky in the last 6 mos. So you're screwed because you've been denied access when needed, and have to schedule an unnecessary appointment just for a prescription refill. Dr. Velky is one of the best doctors in the area, but UH has destroyed his medical practice and has limited patient access to him.

When I have a real problem I'm always worked in within 24 hours due to asthma and allergy problems; my only concern is weekend coverage - I do not like going to the ER - nor do I like the "hospitalist" that now have taken over in-patient care; I do all I can to avoid a visit to the hospital & ER; I think its a disgrace to the medical community that we as patients cannot be seen by our physician of choice after admission.

This is the most caring office and Doctor there is in the world.
