Agree with OP. How this MD became so prominant as an authority on Tourettes is beyond me. We consulted him for possibly initiating a tic substitution program for our child. He was pompous and condescending, did not get to know the patient at all, and prescribed meds that would have left our child a zombie. In his own words, "that's the sacrifice you have to make." So not true! We went to a local neurologist at our local hospital who prescribed an effective medication with minimal side-effects. You don't need to sacrifice cognitive functioning and living a full life -- esepcially for a child -- in order to manage tics. You just need to find another MD, not Walkup.

I would never choose this doctor. He is self-absorbed and self-important. Listening to him talk about how "easy" it is to deal with a child with multiple major difficulties is invalidating and infuriating. Likes to blame parents. Especially coming from a man with no children of his own.
