Dr. John Aaron Whitfield JR., MD

Dr. Whitfield and staff have always been friendly and warm at each visit. The office always feels so welcoming.

Today was my first visit. The physician had a wonderful bedside manner. Was concerned and listened. The staff at this office was absolutely wonderful. They were concerned that they made each person comfortable, listened and address concerns in a very professional manner.

Poor bedside manner; rude and uncaring; dismissive of my concerns and condescending. Seems nice to begin with, but turns out not to be so nice. Nurse is rude, uncaring, and doesn't listen or obey what the doctor says. He told me they would do an external sonogram and a trans vaginal sonogram only if necessary. The nurse made my appointment and said it was a trans vaginal. I told her what the doctor said and she completely ignored me and proceeded to tell me I was going to have the trans vaginal. The sonogram tech was nice but didn't explain the trans vaginal sonogram at all to someone who's never had one. She just came in, said get undressed and started. The doctor completely dismissed me when I said I was in great pain from the trans vaginal sonogram. He didn't believe me when I said I was having trouble walking or sitting. He acted shocked and even more so when I told him I had to call in sick to work because I was in so much pain. He then proceeded to tell me he wanted to… do a pap smear right then, while I was in pain. I told him no. I have clinically-diagnosed severe anxiety, which I had talked to him about previously. He told me that I need to get over it and get the pap smear done. I will not be going back to him.

After 2 visits with Dr. Whitfield in 2011 I chose to seek a different gynecologist. Now in 2014 I have received a bill from his office for $24. I called the office mgr Jenny. She stated it was for a missed appointment over 2 yrs ago. I explained that I called and cancelled the appointment. She told me about the previous office manager's record keeping faults. But since she has no record of my cancellation she refuses to cancel the charges. Instead she threatened to send the $24 to collections. I'm astounded! It will cost more to process the account to collections than to remove the errant charges. In addition to having a rude office manager, Dr Whitfield has poor bedside manner. He did not volunteer information about my condition. I had to ask all of the questions. He seemed disinterested in my concerns and was very cold in his responses. I went to see him a second time thinking it may have been a bad day. I received the same poor treatment. I would not recommend this physician.

I have been going to Dr. Whitfield for several years and while I have no complaints with him his office manager, Jenny, is so rude and disrespectful that I am switching doctors. I called in on a Friday around 11:45 a.m. to ask that my prescription be renewed prior to my appointment the following week. She informed me that "in a normal situation people don't call in at the last minute". I have no idea what was not "normal" about my situation. I have been seeing this doctor for almost five years and have been using this same birth control prescription for three years, that is about as "normal" as you can get. The other issue is that 11:45 a.m. on a business day is somehow last minute to her. The fact that she was unable to help is something that I can certainly get over, but her attitude and condescending tone was absolutely inappropriate. If you can steer clear of Jenny then I would recommend Dr. Whitfield but she is so bad that I am switching doctors after five years.
