I can't remember a time when I didn't want to be a surgeon. It was a calling for me, like that I can make a significant and immediate difference in my patients' lives. Trauma is a unique field of medicine. Illness and disease allow the patient time to adapt. But with trauma a life can change in a minute. A trip on the stairs, an auto accident, a gunshot wound � none are expected, but all require immediate medical care. There's no recipe book to follow in trauma. Almost every time I respond to a trauma call, there's a chance I'll see something I've never seen before. The best way to achieve success, especially in trauma, is to try to bring stability and calm to the situation. I have worked hard to be a well-trained surgeon and at the same time I can keep an emotional balance during stressful situations.
