I "inherited" Dr. Murphy from my former, much-loved dentist. Everything went well for several years. Then I saw a change: for reasons that still baffle me, Dr. Murphy became more distant, cooler in his manner, and even complained about disliking his job because "everyone hates dentists". The final straw came when his office called me ON THE DAY OF MY APPOINTMENT and told me that he was now discontinuing sedation--specifically nitrous oxide. (In fact I was told he was discontinuing ALL sedation.) He knew I had a severe phobia (which I had made clear had NOTHING to do with him) and had always offered me nitrous before--as most dentists do now. Suddenly, no sedation will be given to ANY patient--no matter if they're undergoing a seriously painful procedure. Pain relief, sure, but no sedation. A lot of people just cannot handle a dental appointment--esp one involving a painful procedure--without sedation. And to tell me the very day of my appointment?? (I was also developing a very nasty… abscess in one tooth, so I had to get an emergency appt. with a dentist I didn't know--it was at Thanksgiving!!) I could have ended up with a very serious infection. I have no idea what's going on at Dr. Murphy's office--but be assured I have found another dentist who thank God is understanding and wants his patients to be comfortable. I would not recommend Dr. Murphy to ANYONE!!!

A truly caring professional. It was not necessary to treat me for pain at the time of my visit. He explained very patiently what the procedure would involve.
