Dr. Jon David Oden, MD

May be the least sympathetic person I have ever met. As a provider I was embarrassed for him. He may have some knowledge of T1D but that’s about it. His understanding of other endocrine disorders appears to be rudimentary.

Started seeing my child 10 months ago after T1D diagnosis. Dr Oden is also a T1D, so he is very knowledgeable in the day to day life of diabetes. He is also involved in JDRF and Camp Aldergate. He is not only a good doctor, but also a good role model for my child. He shows his patients to not let diabetes limit them in what they can do. Not sure how he managed to get one star reviews from some patients. They must have had a much different experience than we have.

My grandson has seen him for over a year. He explains everything so I can understand and doesn't make us feel like we are rushed. He is very personable with my 9 year old grandson, so he likes him :)

Even though my daughter was not diagnosed with a very uncommon illness, it felt like he disregarded all my concerns like I was just being dumb for reacting the way I did. I don't care for serious it seems to you my daughter has something I now have to give her meds for the rest of her life and it is scary to think that. He is not someone I recommend.

"Why are you here?" As the above reviewer wrote...that is exactly what this doctor asked us. We had other doctors refer us to the clinic he's practicing in. Visiting him was a complete waste of our time and he made it quite clear that we were wasting his time.

I was a little discouraged the first time that my son and I met Dr. Oden. He seemed very thorough and knowledgeable, but didn't seem very interested in my son being there for a consultation. After the initial visit, however, things changed. Our subsequent visits have been much better. I now have 2 of my children that see him. He is thorough in his evaluations. Our doctor/parent relationship and his bedside manner are improved. I find it difficult to take my children or myself to specialists. We have been to many. I walk out of initial visits often feeling like I am being asked "Why are you here?". It is my job, though, to be an advocate for my children and give the physician the occasion to have an "off" day. I am glad that we decided to stay on with Dr. Oden. He takes interest in my boys and provides quality care. (His nurse practitioner is also fantastic. He spent a lot of time with us at the last visit and explained things to me on a level that we could all understand).
