Dr. Jon Charles Parks, MD

I had been a patient of Dr. Parks for several years where he performed several cervical ablations that helped me a lot with lower neck and upper back pain. Initially, I was with a fantastic, caring PA named Rita. Sadly, when she retired things started going downhill as a result of a very uncompassionate PA named Kristen Babbin, who doesn't appear to still work there. I experienced several miscommunications between support staff and Kristen that only complicated issues. Then, on December 2nd, 2020 Dr. Parks fused both SI joints. But I had to go off my Meloxicam for ninety days to allow the fusion to heal properly. The other arthritic joints in my body flared up but Kristen wouldn't allow any increase in the Buprophinephrine patch of 15 micrograms, or supplement it with another low-dose opioid. Things continued to deteriorate over the next several weeks with more miscommunications between staff and Kristen. Eventually, she caused me to be terminated as a patient of Dr. Parks sending… me on a two-year nightmare for pain management. (Sadly, support staff failed with two other pain doctors.) My SI joint pain was pretty good for 7-8 months before it started bothering me again. (Long story involved here.) About three months ago I was referred by my current pain doctor to a neurosurgeon in Kansas City, MO to see if I was a candidate for a spinal cord stimulator to help with the growing pain in my SI joints. After talking for a while with him, Dr. Rosenburg, a fantastic person, said you report good pain relief for about eight months after surgery, so I'm wondering if the fusions are still solid. He then asked if a pain doctor had performed the fusion. When I said yes, he got a grimaced look on his face and said I don't like how pain doctors are doing these fusions as they aren't working out. But with the MRI I went there with, there were too many artifacts from all my hardware to get a clear view of the fusions were solid. He sent me home and ordered CT scans of my pelvis. About a month later I went for a follow-up with Dr. Rosenburg. I had read the written report and already knew the fusions weren't solid. But when I saw him, he said that looking at the CT scan he couldn't even tell the joints had been fused!! About a week ago I took the written report to Dr. Park's office as I wanted him to know it didn't hold and thought perhaps it would help him to change what he was doing if he hadn't already, and to see if there was any way of going "backward in time." I left the report with a receptionist and asked for someone to call me. A few hours later some lady did call and I shared my concerns with her and wanted her to see if Dr. Parks wanted to try and make this right. She said she'd pass it on to Dr. Parks. I haven't heard anything else from his clinic. I will take down this negative review if I hear from Dr. Parks and we find some way to make this fiasco right. But if you are reading this, think twice before undergoing any type of fusion with Dr. Parks, or any pain doctor!! Pain doctors were authorized to do these fusions, against what other orthopedists thought was appropriate, just so they could bill for them and get the "big bucks." This, and the entire state of pain management in this country has become a nightmare for many chronic pain sufferers. I've had a total of 35 surgeries in my 62 years, and now looking at my 36th because Parks Fusion not holding. I'm not the type to try and sue doctors, even though there have been other issues over the years. However, the extreme disregard Dr. Parks appears to have for this situation is extremely disturbing. I still would recommend him for regular pain management procedures, but encourage anyone to think long and hard about letting him do surgery on you!!

Dr. Parks is very personable and professional. In addition, he explained what he was going to do and how he hopes it will work to help me, as well as explaining what to expect after the injection I received. I have been very pleased with the visits I've had with Kim Clothier, P.A., too. She is very competent and compassionate. At last I have found some people who believe I have pain and want to help me. All of the staff members are very friendly, and joy of joys, there are therapy dogs in the clinic! Nothing could make me feel more at home. This is a wonderful place.

I have a 10 level back fusion and deal with chronic pain. I was referred to Dr. Parks and I haven't regretted it. I've tried steroid epidural injections and they don't work for me. Not the doctor's fault; just my body. The PA I work with is so loving and supportive. She makes sure that I am reasonably comfortable and that I understand all that she is prescribing for me. Yes, at 59 I, too, undergo monthly pee tests. It's the law and anyone entering into this program signs a contract stating that they will not use any other illegal substances while in the program. The consequences of violating this contract are expulsion from the program. Think about it: if I'm getting prescriptions for controlled substances which have a good chance of causing overdose if not administered properly, Dr. Parks and Colleagues don't want me creating an even deadlier cocktail by adding marijuana, cocaine, meth or other street drugs. Most negative comments focus on not seeing Dr Parks everytime they come… in. I've only seen him for surgeries, too. He's ALWAYS made me comfortable by explaining the procedure before and during the process. He stays in the room to make sure I'm okay after the procedure. This is the only time I have seen him but this doesn't bother me as I'd rather see him helping others through surgeries than chatting me up in an exam room while I get pills counted. Hes there for the big items that the bnurses and PAs can't do. Maturity. Don't be so selfish. I've seen one other pain management specialist and didn't make it past the first meeting because he only had one nurse and his calendar was booked out two months. The "office" is in a strip mall and it looked like a fly by night operation. I just didn't have a good feeling about it. I have nothing but good things to say about the Advanced Pain management staff. They're the best!

I went to Dr Parks after an appointment with a spine surgeon. I have 2 herniated disks and degenerative scoliosis. After a procedure to help the aggravation of the disk herniation, I then had a procedure to burn the nerve endings to give time for the herniated disks to repair. At this time I have no pain! I would recommend Dr Parks and Advanced Pain Medicine Associates to everyone needing pain relief.

I will say that Dr. Parks is very good with a needle, however the rest of his staff are uncaring and rude to the patients. People will not complain if they are on pain meds for fear of having meds taken away and suffering withdrawal. His PAs are not nice people, they think that you are only there for drugs. Not really a good overall experience. Also, the schedulers have gave me the WRONG time on my appointment card three different times. They totally do not care if they waste your time. Since I am not on pain meds. I did complain. They did not care. Seems like the business has so many patients, that they don't care if some are neglected or ignored. If you like being treated like a child or criminal, this is the place for you!

I read the negative reviews about Dr. Parks, but decided to make my on opinion. I am glad I did. The women at the front desk were nice and helpful. The medical assistant and PA we're awesome. Dr. Parks was wonderful. He told me everything that he was going to and chatted with me through the whole procedure.

No one has taken the time to talk to me before or after my treatments. Treatments that have not worked at all.

Although the shots did eventually help, the doctors were only present during the shot itself. Instead, all appointments were handled by the PA. My PA, Lien Graham pegged me as a drug addict from the beginning. I really though once she reviewed the x-rays and saw that I was not faking the pain that she would try and be a bit nicer. It was so bad that even when one of the shot areas became infected, she refused to see me. I ended up going back to my regular doctor to get something fixed that they caused. If you are in real pain, being treated as sub-human is not what I would recommend for anyone. Even when I asked Dr. Parks in my last shot session about it, he did not believe that anyone on his staff would make an assumption about someone's level of pain OR would not provide vital information needed to help with the process of getting better. Awful place.

Wow... After "seeing" Dr. Jon Parks office over a period of time, he came in once maybe twice and when we asked to see him during our visits, he would always have his nurse come in - never saw him, he would walk by our room, glance in as he hurried past... Also - older (90's-ish) technology and very limited treatment options, shot, implant, painkiller... Where were the pain patches, the stimulator attached to the spine, different steroids, etc. for injections, or different nerve shots trigger poiint injections, etc., etc.... none were offered and when asked they said they did not do those... How incompetent can you get...

Will continue to go back. Very happy
