Dr. Jon Jay Tumen, MD

I brought my brother, who has Downs Syndrome to Dr Tumen, to monitor his sleep apnea. We will not return. He is rude, condescending and completely uninterested. Our goal was to establish my brother has a new patient and Dr Tumen seemed almost irritated that we were there. His nurse’s bedside manner was not much better. We had a wonderful experience with our prior Pulmonologist in Nashville who is no longer in practice.

I thought that Dr. Tumen spent adequate time with me asking about my past year and listening to my updates. He was friendly and thoughtful in his responses. He interacted with his clinical associates in a friendly / professional manner. Very comfortable office visit overall. Highly recommend.

Dr. Tumen is an awesome Doctor! One of the things that makes him so good is that he really cares about his patients!

I have been a patient of Dr. Tumen since 2007. After visiting a sleep center, it was revealed that I had a SEVERE case of sleep apnea. Upon learning this, Dr. Tumen told me at that point that my only options for dealing with my sleep apnea were the CPAP mask for the rest of my life or a procedure that would make my face "look like Homer Simpson." After months of the machine suppressing my breathing at night, I gave up on it and went back to sleeping without a machine. I went back to see Dr. Tumen in 2010 to let him know that I had not been using the machine and I felt my health was suffering because of that. Again, he gave me the two options of CPAP for life or Homer Simpson face. His time with me was incredibly brief and I felt as if I was a bother to him more than anything.So late 2011 I began looking at alternatives to fixing my sleep apnea. I had a mouth device made by my dentist that would alleviate the symptoms of sleep apnea, but i also went to an Ear Nose and Throat… doctor for a second opinion. The ENT told me that he could remove my tonsils and repair my nasal passages that had been off-centered (Dr. Tumen never mentioned or checked on this) and that should do quite a bit of good. I had the surgery done and requested another visit to the sleep center. The sleep center told me that the only way I could get in was with a prescription from Dr. Tumen. Of course, Dr. Tumen wouldn't let me speak to him over the phone for a scrip... He couldn't bill me for office hours if he just spoke to me over the phone, so he requested I come in to his office. We spoke, he VERY briefly investigated the work that I had recently had done to my nose and tonsils, giving me grief for having the surgery done without his approval. He expressed a poor opinion of my ENT's decision to do surgery, but gave me the scrip for the sleep visit.So it has now been 2 weeks since my visit to the sleep center and I still have yet to hear from my doctor. Apparently, I am still a bother to him and his practice. I do know that my apnea has been greatly improved since the surgery as my snoring has all but ceased to the point where my wife can sleep beside me every night without waking! All of this was no thanks to the efforts of Dr. Tumen.Patient Beware.
